Drove back to Devon (slowly) with no probs but next day (as some of you already know) i had major cold start woes. Local garage said head gasket
After much head scratching and advice from FOG members,,,,,the problem cleared itself! The only thing that i did was tighten up a coolant hose clip. Don't you love it when things fix themselves. Anyway MOT came next. This truck is the first vehicle i've ever owned that went through an MOT first time. The inspector was even astounded at how good the underneath is. Said he's never seen a 4x4 with no rust before So MOT done it was time to investigate the whistling turbo and distinct lack of power. 5 minutes was all it took to find that the vaccum pipe from the oil pump was disconnected and also the intake from the air box was too... (so much for the vendor claiming to be a mechanic! Incidently he also claimed to have replaced the cam belt,,,which this engine doesn't have
) The pipe from the air box has actually come adrift from the rubber sleeve at the turbo end, but i've wedged it in for now and will do a more permanent bodge with some silicone until i get a replacement. Result of these 5 minutes? No whistle and the truck can now accelerate (is that the right word?) up hills. No more second gear grinds There are one or two other niggles with the truck but basically i love it already. This is to be a working vehicle, it has to carry my chainsaws,brushcutter etc out in to the wilds of Devon every day and so far it seems well up to the job. (especially now the turbo works). So once again, thanks to those that helped with the cold start problem and keep up the good work!!!!!
