paul the viking way is only around the corner from stainby were we are going in june the 2nd and 3rd i suppose if there was any other people interested in going on the lane that weekend it would proberbly be a safe time to have a go seeing as there will be ten to fifteen other 4x4s near to you if you have a cb im sure one of us can come along to the rescue
i personally havent been on it but have heard of people doing the lane and having a really good days driving

Andy, is that the lane where some one had hung blocks of wood with 6" nail through from trees at the same height of a horses head ? as he dont like horses either.

Yesterday after the blocked lane with the tree, we came upon this sign nailed into a tree at SK 869284, on both side of the lane was blocks of wood with 3 inch nails punched through (sound familiar)

Now I walked the lane for a good 1/2 mile in front of the vehicles checking the water holes for obstructions, found none

These blocks were tied in the bushes both sides with bailing string (still attached) about horse head height, not that easy to see I imagine from that height, and there were signs of horses that had used it recently, will post pics of the blocks later

Further down the lane there was a section on the left where vehicles divert off the bad section and round through a small wooded section, we erected the wooden blockage and made good use of the sign from the beginning of the lane

I'm not willing to enter my thoughts on this action, but it is worrying, and as already seen can lead to more nasty forms of deterrent, so please be aware of where you are, you may have the right of way, but not everybody sees it as so

Also an incident happed at the beginning of the year where a group of two vehicles took a wrong turning (within 10 miles of this point), bad map reading, they realised their mistake, turned around and were rather aggressively challenged by the farmer, not going into details on what happened yet to say no person was injured, but there was contact between a farm vehicle and one of the vehicles. There was no signs on the entrance of the lane pointing out any kind of restriction or private road etc

Obiously this person had some dealing before with some people not knowing what as he was not in a talking mood

All I say is make sure you you read your gps/maps correctly, there is obviously some bad blood in this area

o my god how can some people justify that sort of behaviour the farmer in question should by rights be arrested for criminal damages to that vehicle and put in front of a court and ordered to pay damages for what he has done and the grantham paper should be made to cover the story front page

i no some of the farmers in my area are against 4x4s using there tracks but as long as we dont damage anything like crops fences and gates they dont complaine too much ,
i reguiarly sit with two of them in our local boozer and they keep making wise cracks about having to come and pull me out of the dyke i got stuck in the first time i went down there feild perimeters

These were also put up at horse neck height to prevent them from using it too

Now being a horse ridder and a 4x4 owner that is very distrubing, it is the same in the horsey world some people abuse the rights of way and go galloping across farmers fields. I can se why they get annoyed, but that one has gone a little overboard i shant take my horse anywhere near his land.
