I've held back quite well up until now (probably due to a dose of flue I'm just about over), but...

I do think it is extremely inaapropriate to use the "we're going to get dirty" smiley when arranging to go green laning.

If you want to get your truck dirty, go to a pay and play site.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and to post their concerns freely...

Lawrence was just making the point that Laning is not about playing in the mud and trying to get your truck muddy, something that sadly some of the offroading community think laning is all about.

I am sure Lawrence wasnt trying to be a kill joy and understandably everyone is excited about what promises to be a great trip to the back of beyond in Wales.

We all relish the opportunities to get our trucks off the tarmac and on to the more interesting stuff that they were built for, but its worth remembering that this section of the forum is visible to non-foggers who might be looking in, who may be looking for any ammunition they can gather to further restrict our already over restricted hobby, and we should consider how our comments could be perceived or used against us.

Please respect other members opinions (even if you dont agree), especially those who have the longevity of our laning at heart.

I understand Trugga's concerns and at the same time the excitement including myself when a big meet is imminent, but there are enough old sensible hats on the weekend to educate those that do not know about the etiquette of green lanes and the responsibility we all have for the lanes and the Group.
So as the cars will very likely get a little muddy they are far from going to be churning up the country side.

So lets get on with having some fun and enjoying the company and countryside eh :wink:

I do get concerned sometimes that those that do not know what laning is might get drawn in to the thought that they can go and get their truck covered in mud on one of our FOG day or weekend trips - I too once thought the same.

Over a number of years I have come to learn that green laning can be a very sensitive issue. Many people, including those who are members here learn the preferred way of enjoying our heritage of unsurfaced rights of way, whilst others (you tube is full of them) do not understand that driving at inappropriate speeds, diving off-piste and not understanding the types of ROW can get an awful lot of negative response from other members of the public.

I have seen the impact the NERC Act had on us (we lost 50% of the unsurfaced tracks we could drive) and there is still pressure to eliminate 4x4's from the remaining lanes.

I am positive you will all have a great weekend away and I'm sure you will return with some mud on your trucks, although I expect it will be by accident rather than design.

rest assured L, I dont like cleaning my truck, so the less mud the better, and I dont like doing the carwash incase oil leaks from somewhere :lol:

I know that 4x4s are unwelcome on most green lanes, every time I have passed a walker etc (makin sure I give them as much notice, time and space as they need) they still look on disapprovingly. I don't think anyone would be foolish enough to cause a nuisance at the expense off the rest of the group.

I'm looking froward to seeing colleys smile slowly disapere as he realises that me and Jason can manage 50mph tops
