29th November Laning Trip Review

Uploading pics now, not great as I forgot the memory card for the camera so they are from the phone.

A fantastic day was had by all (I hope), started with a very foggy drive to the meeting point at Corwen. Hello's were said and the usual pre laning banter before setting off to the Carwash. Then on towards Bylchau for a couple of lanes. The first one was nice and easy, tarmacked for the most part before opening up and heading across a field. The second lane started in a similar fashion, tarmacked at first and the through a dodgy looking gate and down a very muddy tree lines avenue which after a left hand turn started descending down a very muddy and slippery hill. This section was heavily rutted and slushy and quite steep in places. As an added measure we put lots of fallen tree branches at a drop off just in case. Quite narrow in sections with lots of sideways action. This was a great lane but I personally will keep it for summer use from now on.

After this it was onwards to the 3rdlane. This lane has 2 sections but after driving the 1st hundred yards we reversed and did the second section, it was so overgrown that it was no more then a footpath so we headed to the 2nd section. This was to start off through a leaf littered track up a gentle hill opening into a field before heading off to the 4th lane. This was going to be the surprise of the day as it started climbing a gravel track across a farmers field, we did stop about a 100 metres into this lane to have a chat with the farmer who wanted to have a moan about 4x4ers not closing his gates properly and have a winge about commercial 4x4 trips. Overall a very nice and understanding sorta chap who was just looking after his interests. Anyway, onwards up the hill and into a forest section with some ruts and ice filled potholes. Cresting a hill we saw a couple of Land Rovers ahead of us. We stopped and had a brief hello and chat, they were heading on towards the wayfarer afterwards. The 2nd Landie was completely standard, road tires and no recovery points.
We gave them a few minutes to go ahead of us and continued on our merry way. What came next was quite a surprise, te track started descending a hill opeing into a picnic area beside a small reservoir. We duly stopped and had lunchand a chat at this point before:

Heading towards the Lost Lake. Thefirst section as far as the crossroads was up to its usual standard but once we turned right togo to the lake we discovered it had been resurfaced. All the side slopes and axle twisters and tricky bits have been removed. It is now a gravel road all the way to the house. Its still a nice drive for the scenery but lacks anything for the serious laner. We turned around at the lake and continued back down turning right at the crossroads before heading back through Pentrefoelas and starting a lane a couple of miles south. This was a cracker of a lane. Rocky and rutted with fantastic views all round.

Overall a great day, snow capped peaks all round and a great mix of terrain. With it being so cold the ground was hard under our wheels meaning no-one had any difficulty's at all.

. I wud just like to thank phil and jim for sorting out a good days laning . I was plesently suprised at what my fronty cud cope with and after seeing the others I cant wait to add some more mods :lol:

. It was nice to meet you all and put faces to the names, hope you all got back ok and I cant wait for the next time. (will add pics asap) :dance:

Yep, as Phil said it was a great day and i too am looking forward to the next one

. It was great to get out with Phil and Neil again and also meet Steve and Dave, hope to get out with you all again soon. We did some cracking lanes, all of them new to me, in some absolutely stunning snow capped scenery. Once we had got out of corwen we did the car wash in thick fog to get us in the mood, before heading up to the first couple of BOATs up past LLyn Brenig. The second was was very rough, a real sunken "bocage" type lane with some slippery mud drop offs, going over one of these I ended up teetering on three wheels before she regained her footing. One of the holes we filled with logs etc, I think everyone made it down with little damage apart from a few scratches. On to the next set of lanes, another particularly nice one through the forest. Shame about the recent works on the Lost lake, its still worth a drive up if you are in the area, a nice lane to chill out on. The last lane was a belter, up through a small valley surrounded by snow capped peaks, a great one to finish on. From here we all bid our farewells and went our separate ways. Neil accompanied me back down the A5 to Corwen where we did the car wash again. The drive home was awful, if anyone knows the road between Chester and Corwen they will know it is bad enough at the best of times, but in freezing fog it was pretty grim and I had to stop at a garage to repair a bulb in my tail light. A cracking day though, thoroughly enjoyed it. I'll try and post some pics later, just going to upload them now.

Hi all I think I can safely say that a good time was had by all yesterday. just wish my pics had turned out better. new camera time i think :lol:
