Council smoke screen
Spent most of the day talking to Luton and Bedfordshire councils about the whereabouts of local green lanes. Luton was a flat …no we don’t have any…..and Bedfordshire talked a lot , and steered me to there website and maps of footpaths etc but no green lanes.
You really get the impression they don’t like us…… :cry:

did that, told about f and m and told that most if not all will from now on be closed to traffic as green lane is seen to be antisocil and non pc :evil:

if you come over stevenage way there are loads of byways and fords

did look but the only paths that i could find was around totternhoe and they showed up brown not orange.......are they what i.m looking for , it does say there boat

Try the lanes in offley/Whitwell/bendish been out on em all weekend no bother from anyone!!!As long as your polite and not acting the c@@t most people are cool ...even the farmers from our experience!!!Theres loads around that area and all easy to find and all connected pretty much.

Oh ...and theres a couple of good lanes between pepperstock and markyate only 2 mins from luton!!and one from markyate to studham.

There is alot of lanes about in luton/bedfordshire and im driving them all the time. theres the ones all ready listed which are good lanes with no problems and there are all so a few at steppingly (hard to find unless you know where) and woburn (seen many cars driving it) All so by markyate you are close to 3 fords which aint deep.

i have just come back from a days laning with some lr's started at 10.00 got home at 18.00 great day out with some great fords.

If you want me to show you some of these lanes just let us know

thanks i will be taking you up on them....but the powers that be say they don't exist thats what im trying to say, they really hate green laners

The trouble with Council's and some council staff, is that they only answer the question they are given, not the intent behind the question.

Under the Freedom of Information act, they have to give the information you ask for if they have it.

I thought most Council's have a Rights of Way Officer. The Vauxhall Off Road club involved the Wiltshire one a lot, and he was very supportive of appropriate use.

Suggest finding out of they have a RoW officer, and speaking with him/her.

It's always worth getting a latest OS map, and going to the council to check the status of the roads marked on the map.
