Offroad Venues-Just a suggestion

Hi, I've been reading the posts about get togethers etc Which sounds like it should be fun, but there doesn't seem to be any information on the site about places where you can go greenlaning or pay and play. What about setting up a forum listing these so you know whats available to you locally or countrywide. I'm dying to go and have a play but as a newbie I just don't know where to start looking. Also if there is an easy reference list then I'm sure we can get more get togethers organised.

They do Pay & Plays, just watch out for the big puddle and the clay silt in the rad !!

They do have onsite catering and loos, and a jetwash at £1 for about 7-10 mins use..

Hi, Steve.
The Green Lanes are there for all to see on any OS map.
But recently there have been some big and negative changes to the classifaction of some of the roads so some OS maps could be out of date.
Some unmetaled lanes that where legal to drive before may have been down graded so they are now access only or non motorised vehicals.
If you where to join GLASS or CRAG they could help in telling you the situation of lanes in your area or even the local council , though some are more helpful than others.
If you subscibe to this site there is a wealth of info there too.

Rough Guide Only:

On the Ordnance Survey map 1:50,000 series

+++++++ (red crosses) designates BOAT's (Byeways Open to All Traffic)
o o o o o o (red dots) designates ORPA's (Other Routes with Public Access)

These are the ONLY non surfaced routes that may be driven by a Motorised Passenger Vehicle (MPV), subject to there being no TRO (Traffic Restriction Order) upon them, seasonal or otherwise - this is where it gets tricky in that you need to contact the lanes council office for information.

If you are caught illegally, you will be fined and made an example of as the new laws (NERCA) were passed at the end of March.

If you get taken to court, it is up to you to prove you were legally allowed to drive there.

It is a messy subject.

Oh, and sorry Steve4, I still come accross people (new forum members included) who do not know the difference between legal green laning and pay and play sites (or "offroading")

I only want to educate so that we can continue to drive what little lanes there are left to drive.

Point of interest. Berfore the NERC Act, you were leagally allowed to drive approx 5% of the public rights of way in England and Wales. Now, post NERC, that figure is down to about 2.5%. Also, the National Parks control the use of lanes that pass through their area, rather than the local councils... Its a long and sad story.

I had a look at the BOFA site and I must say I was most impressed..

When the truck is up and running again, I think I'll sign up for one of their trips and then perhaps I could do you a small review if you would like that...

Plus my family is over in Birmingham so I could combine a visit on a Saturday, overnight in a Travelodge or B&B and then a drive round the forest on a Sunday..

I forgot to add, that I could try and negotiate a Group Discount too if there were enough interested parties..
