From Carlisle the borders and North

Just though I'd better give you northerners prior warning I'll be travelling up to Lockerbie and Castle O'er forest on Friday 27th June and returning on the following Monday. The British Off Road Championship will have it's third round in the forest and for the first time, I have arranged holiday from work to allow me to marshal on the 2 day event. If you fancy a social, I'd welcome a chat over a pint (or two) and of course you'd be welcome to pop into the venue either Saturday or Sunday to spectate the Competative Safari (4x4's razzing it round the forest). You may want to sign on and marshal and make a day of it (where else do you get to legitimately drive a 4x4 championship course I'll be camping for either 2 or three nights, but there will be a beer tent on site and the excellent oXo food facility. Hmmm, sounds interesting. The girlfriends heading off to austrailia at the end of june but i can't remember what date so if its after she leaves i'll come down for it.
When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car.

Yep, I'm still planning to drive up on Friday and camp over Friday and Saturday night.
It looks like the venue will be closed to us for Sunday nigh, so I would appreciate a recommendation of another local campsite (near a pub) for the Sunday night stop over.

I think I've got Sunday night camping sorted - Twiglees. Oh, Jools, I think you'll be posted at the junction down from me - you get an MSA Danger Spot, I get the Spectator Entrance. At least I'll have somewhere to park - you'll have to reverse up into the woods I'm looking forwards to this event now. Lawrence

I'm not sure about a tree stump, but apparently there is a mound of earth with the top flatted off for you to park on top of. Speaking to Chris on the phone last night, he was wondering how you'd cope - I read out your list of mods and emphasised the SWB and he thought that spot would be ideal.
You should get your instructions emailed through either Monday or Tuesday.
The entrance is to the north of the forest, but signing on and camping is at the south (there is a little clearing on the OS map on the edge of the County border, by the ford), so we get to drive through the forest in the morning, sign on, then drive back up north to our posts, then back down to the campsite for a bite to eat and the beer tent, then do the same on Sunday.
I've been warned to stay away from the "muddy mile" though, although once the event has finished...
I've been asked to bring my mast, as I will be at the furthest point from "Marches Control" who will be located in the service area (camp site) - I might have to act as relay for a number of radios on the north side (makes it more interesting I s'pose).
Dood wise, XOX provide an excellent menu (from a buttie wagon), not only do you get the mainstay bacon/sausage/egg rolls, they also do an evening meal - last weekend it was beef stew and boiled spuds for £4.
I don't suppose I need to remind you to bring the midge repellant.

Thanks for the info - sounds like fun Any idea when we need to be on post? I'll be driving down in the morning, so it'll be a pretty early start. Midge repellant all sorted - Avon skin-so-soft is the repellant of choice, if you don't already know. (true!) Cheers J
