2.2 dti limited 1999 lwb 4wd light flashing and not engaging

Hi there I know you guys have covered this loads but I can't find it I have 2.2dti limited 1999 lwb I have the 4x4 symbol flashing at me on the dash and I don't think its engaging the 4wd I've been told it might be the vacuum? It sounds like the passenger sides not engaging does this sound right can you tell me what I need to do thanks

First stop change all vac pipes in engine bay and front axles. Have a search of the forum lots of posts about this.

When you push the button the first thing that tries to engage is the rear actuator on the transferbox. This then sends a message to the ecu, which will then tell everything else to work. I would start here and check that you an hear it.
They fail particularly if 4wd isn't used much.
As mention vacuum pipes are also a common culprit and cheap and easy to replace if you are unsure when they were done last.
