frontera 2.2 petrol

Hi im Keiron
just recently bought a 2.2 petrol frontera on 2004 plate with 49000 miles was an ex ambulance so im guessing it was used for fetes ie parked on a field ticking over all day, problem is it runs fine for the first 1/4 mile then starts to judder as if its running out of petrol, we have changed the egr valve, and all the plastic pipework from the air filter to the carb including the sensor (no difference) recently unplugged the the wires off the top of the egr valve which put the engine management light on but the car runs 100 % better no juddering but lacks power up hills any advice would be much appreciated
( had it into vauxhall on there machine and the only fault was the sensor which plugs into the air pipe work which we changed when changing the pipework ) they also told us the had checked the cat by tapping it as you can hear if the insides had came away.

Could be cam sensor,can cause all types of faults and dont show fault codes either,but go to a a dealer and buy 1,pattern part wont work.

might be worth cleaning the connections of the cam sensor with switch cleaner before buying a new one though, agree with getting a vx replacement because from what ive read here in the past others are very hit and miss regarding their performance.

Fuel filter clogged?.........the engine will run with or without the cam sensor connected. It will use default settings if it's failed. It will throw the eml light if it's faulty but the car will run just fine. In fact I ran mine for two years before replacing it and if I'm honest the only difference was the eml light was off instead of on. It's there to fine tune the injector firing.

I'm with Ghosthunter on this one, change the fuel filter first.. then check change all the VAC pipes if its still a problem.

Check engine breathers for clogging and the one way valve on the back of the throttle body ( in line VAC pipes )

You will also need to know if this is a fueling failure or electrical issue.

If all of the above is OK then about 1/4 mile it will be getting up to running temp so change the temp sensor ( 2 pin connection unit ) not the single blade connector one.

Look on the EGR housing, to the left of the EGR is the 2pin temp sensor, to the left of that is the single connection temp sensor - this one only services the dash clocks, change the 2pin one. then re-test.

I also agree with Vauxsqueeks....check the 2 pin temp sensor at the back of the head...it might not even be connected!. Though if it is faulty the engine will run terrible when it warms up...Vaux mentioning it reminded me when mine went faulty.

just to thank everyone for there help
we changed the cat costing £205 fitted and disconnected the battery for 2 hrs put the battery on resetting engine management codes and now the car is like a new motor no problems at all and not lacking any power
