Diesel or petrol?

Hi all,
Not been on in a while coz the frontera I had started to need a lot of work so I've had a car for a bit now,
But as the kids are grown and leaving home we want to do a bit more exploring around the country and I've always liked driving the fronty better than a car on long trips so the question is....
Which would be better a petrol with lpg or a diesel.
Was looking at the 2.2 petrol & diesel and maybe a v6 with lpg.
Still don't know if it'll be a swb or lwb.
Any advise on the lpg (being good or not) would be great coz I've never used it before.

Personally i run diesels but the 3.2 on gas gets good reviews as well.

Don't bother with the 2.2 petrol its just as thirsty as the 3.2..... I've got both and for long drives the 3.2 wins hands down. There are good reports with the 2.2 diesel, just make sure the pumps been replaced. As for the 3.2 on lpg Deans the man and it won't be long before he reports here :dance:

So the 2.2 petrols out then lol.
Would the v6 lpg and the diesel be about the same cost to run?
Haven't really taken much notice on how much lpg costs not using it.

Had the v6 about 3 weeks now, running on gas it works out about 5 mpg better than dti, Oh and the power is wonderful

Well it's looking like it could be the v6 then.
Just need to find a good one with lpg now, seen a couple of "in good condition" ones that weren't lol.
Does the v6 have anything expensive to look out for like the diesel has the pump?
Little things I can fix but any warnings would be great.
Also can you get the lpg tank fitted under the floor (if it's not got it)or would it have to have been factory fitted for that?

Because the B series has a side mounted fuel tank you can get an under boot floor donut shaped LPG tank. This means you save boot space. A good LPG system will get you around 300 miles for around £45 (that is what we get out of our 4.0 V6 Ford Explorer on LPG)

The 3.2 is a very good engine. Only things that can cause issues commonly is Lambda sensors. They are cheap to replace and easy to to swap out.

Own a v6 and a dti.
If i didnt have the dti, and the v6 wasnt as modified, i would certainly lpg it, rather than get another dti.
Inlet manifold gaskets are quite popular to go on the v6.

If I were to get another Frontera I would either get a 2.8 LWB A series or 3.2 V6 LPG B Series on LPG.

Out of the two probably the 3.2 V6 on LPG.

Think it'll be the v6, have to look for a good one, prob won't be till middle to end of summer (if we get one) though other stuff needs to be sorted first as always

As standard i used to get 30mpg from my v6. Most i have ever had out of the dti is 38mpg. Take into consideration fuel cost differences and the saving isnt actually that much having a dti over v6.
