Mitsubishi shogun

As the title says has anyone had one of these? As I have been looking at them but never had one or drove one so anyone had any experience with it good or bad then might sell mine for about £1400 or am I asking to high ?for my DTI :?:

I was going to buy one but people on here and other forums have said "don't" !

Me thinks further investigations needed then as I have never had one and need a 4wd and something that will tow our caravan so looking at options

Don't the diesels have a bad name for head gaskets going.
Beleive the V6 petrols have a good lump but need the fuel pump money thrown at them. Not sure if Lloyds from down the S.E. Woods is a member on here but he would be the fella to give you accurate info on Mitsi's.

I just fancy a change as mine drives like a dream but age wise it's starting to get the rust spots and with working sleeping working at the min that's my life I have saved some pennies and thought get something newer as I just don't have days off to sort the rust on mine. So see one and I quite liked the look of it but never had one and I thought they might be good so hoped someone had one to tell me yay or nay ???

I had a V6 Shogun Sport for a year and whilst thirsty it was a very nice motor. Well specked, well put together and drove in a very similar manner to the Fronty but the autobox was definitely smoother than those fitted in the Fronty.
The only thing I found a pain was that the boot floor was a lot higher than the Fronty as the spare wheel is mounted under the rear load space. Would happily have another one tomorrow :thumbup:

I do like them Pete but I would like a look at a couple first and some reviews but I seem to be getting more good than bad about them

I had a mk1 v6 auto and loved it. admittedly it was fooked when I got it, the rad had lots of holes just kept filling it up and it leaked oil filled it up sometimes but it never overheated or broke down. The only time it didn't start was when it wasn't used for a couple weeks in a cold winter as the battery was dead,quick charge and it was all good. I used it for collecting logs mainly (usually overloaded) and general work abuse took a really good kicking and still asked for more. However as much as I liked it so do did the rust worm so it had to go. Don't know what the new ones are like for rot I would like to think they have got better. I have also heard the old 2.8 and 2.5 diesel like head gaskets again don't know abo the new ones tho

Diesel ones are prone to engine probs, which can be pricey to fix...Be careful Rob...

Got the 1997 3.5 V6 GDI. Just clocked over 200 000km and goes like stink (100km/h in 2nd). It's an auto with tiptronic. As far as i know in the last 6 years there has never been any problems with it (had it 5 months but it belonged to the wifes uncle who used it to carry his tools around in the building trade. Being a Japanese import it is manufactured to run on 99 octane. I can only get 91 and 95 where i am so am adding octane booster otherwise she surges abit around 80km/h.

The one issue i did have with it is that it has a variable intake chamber, brilliant when it's working but the seals get brittle where the 2 spindle shafts go into the inlet manifold (the variable intake is vacume opperated). Mine had an air leak throught the 2 seals and when i went to get replacement seals i found out they only come complete with the intake manifold, approx $900 NZ plus shipping :wtf:

. Took me 5 minutes to get the fittings of the end of the shafts and used 2 o'rings of the same approx size. that was in January and so far so good.
I have read up that it is a common problem and most people remove the inlet manifold and take the butterflies and spindles out and seal up the holes before refitting.

I have heard nothing but issues with the diesel versions. Head gaskets almost as common as the 2.2 petrol Fronty on both the 2.5 and 2.8 . Glow plugs are an annual thing and recommend genuine ones as the aftermarket ones burn out after a few uses .. that ain't cheap. While the petrols are thirstier .. look for one with an LPG conversion and your laughing. All the people so far who say they are good all have petrols I see

Dare I say it, why not a Trooper/Bighorn?

Cheers peeps but I like to stick to the dirty diesel lol but if they are going to be that bad it could be a smaller tow car then , but again nothing is set in stone

. But like anything you hear good and bad on both so who knows as for bighorn / trooper I don't know just like the look of the shogun.

Only two real engine options I would go for with a Trooper/Bighorn.

3.1 TD which is the stroked 2.8 we all know and love.
3.2 V6 petrol which is what Vauxhall fitted to the B series.

Everything else is down to what trim/toys you want.

Do they not do a 3.1 trooper engine in the shogun then horrible fellows lol
