2.2 petrol...should i buy ?

Hi Guys, ok found a 2.2 petrol swb B got a few dents and speedo n/w but its got a long mot and 4 months tax so its ready to go and its something i can use..... :crazy:

is the 2.2 petrol thirsty and are they reliable ...can you lift these i remember some one on here had a blue one which looked nice...anything else i should be weary of....? :thumbup:

I had a SWB 2.0i ran it for 2 years without any dramas then it had to go due to tin worm then traded up (so I thought) to a 2.2 over the next 18 months it cost me a fortune in petrol and repairs and put me off Fronteras so much I bought a Discovery now I know there are some on here that love the 2.2 vauxsqueeks for one but my advice would be give it a wide birth.

I do miss my shorty big time and I know there are good and bad with all models.
I think i would go diesel personally and I'm going to start my search in the new year

They are thirsty.nearly..as thirsty as a 3.2....... I know I've got both. Despite the horror stories they can be reliable. I've done near on 50000 miles in mine since the head gasket at 94000 miles and it hasn't missed a beat.....but it is slow, and it feels better balanced than the 3.2, they are reasonably tourquey and theres no point revving the arse of it......it will get you nowhere. It's reasonable off road too. 2 inch lift is easy...as is 2 inch body lift and the mud flaps an bumpers can be trimmed with tin snips as they are plastic. The rack is the weak point, they can blow the seals though usually the rack ends will bend first, but they can be had new for a tenner a side and the same part will do either side. I,m pleased with both of mine and the 2.2 has done several trips to your neck of the woods in recent years and I wouldn't hesitate doing it again.....and that was on muds :dance:

I have one and I'm getting 30.2 mpg and that is using it for 12 mile runs to and from Work. It's lifted 2' on spacers and drives fine. I've done my head gasket, so check for any mayo and I blanked my egr at the same time.

thanks for your comments.i was looking for a 2lt sport but they are getting a bit long in the tooth now and theres not so many about looked at discovery but there all rotten and good ones are holding there price D2,s are a night mare and freelanders just don't cut the mustard........ i didnt think the B,s were rust buckets....? still if it comes at the right price.. :thumbup:

I'm on my 2nd 2.2 in 8 years ..... Both have had there issues but so has my 2008 pug !!!! It's luck of the draw mate it really is !
They ain't fast , they can be thirsty if you've a Heavy right foot , drive it like grandad and service it very regular and they will serve you well

been running 2.2 for 8 or more years. both heavily modded too. do local plus motorway. not too bad. you pay for what you get really.
