about six months ago while on a bike ride with a mate well off the beaten track stumbled upon a bit of rusty metal sticking out of the ground?????? both agreed its a car ? but what type. we said we are going to have to dig that up one day and see what it is just for curiosity,well i got a fone call my mate and his 3 teenage lads had took spades and started digging so i thought what the heck i will go and have a look and the roof was ground level in sandy soil next to a stream so ???? what was it???? it was a cortina with a pinto ,,,its well rusted away but at least i found out what it was

Found a sunken tractor about 50 years old at Burbo Bank once, keep an eye on the sand and certain times of the year all kinds reveal themselves

If its that far of the beaten track you might want to try and get hold of the chassis number and give it to the old bill. It may have been nicked or used in a crime of some sort and thats the way they got rid of it? :wink:

Or it could of been used as a coffin

You see this type of thing on CSI all the time!!!!!! :mrgreen:

cheers chaps for making me feel errie ?? well if it was a coffin its a soft top one now cos the roof fell rotted apart so you can see about a foot and a half of the doors ? no bonnet either nicked ur rotted away ,you can see the rocker cover off a pinto but as you dig into engine bay its filling up with water .the hole of the car is shot been there for a good while ? looked for vim plates last night but nowt prob corroded ,i think due to its location .......near driftys scally neck of the woods..... :wave:

id say robbed and stripped then dumped and 30 years of sinking close to edge of stream so if we go back and dig more i will put up a pic or 2

dont think the boot is on it haha ,ste i will have to google map it and give you location but its under the leeds ,liverpool canal sounds daft yeah but i think its the river alt running under the canal via a bridge/tunnel wot have you only narrow but it has no path way to it just farmers field but to get down to it you have a 20 foot slope haha you shud see it ste ,i will check on google now

Is it up by Wango Lane? that's the only place I can think the River Alt meets the cut.

well dun watson ,,,,,yeah thats the only place i was waitin to see if you googled and looked .if you park wango lane near houses and walk along canal then when you cross bridge go down very steep incline but be prepared to slip as you go around to the left and 3 foot high nettles or on wango lane enter farmers field go along track ? both ways have hurdles let me know if yr goin and al pop down

i bet hes gone to have a look? and come back and say how can you tell that rusty piece of junk in a cortina :lol:

Is it by the swing bridge near the railway bridge?

the swing bridge on wango lane yeah just few 100 yards along canal then drop down to under the canal onto river alt

That said I saw a MK11 Mexico loose it and roll under that bridge about 23 years ago, the driver died as the steering wheel (momo) bent back and the column went straight through his chest. I have seen a few violent deaths but that was a bit surreal and strangely peaceful

The kid had borrowed his brothers car who had spent years restoring it and just taxed it that day, he didnt tell his Bro he was taking it, the passenger told me this as I was trying to stop him running away, he was a mess too.

poor kid,,to many younguns think they can speed round corners etc only to learn the hard way,i remember a crash on the flyover my mine few years back and car went over the old liftbridge rolled into canal killed a couple ,driver had been drinking and getting chased by police not nice at all
