Decisions Decisions What do i do :/

I find myself in between the devil and the deep Blue sea, I'm the proud owner of a Frontera RS 2.2 which I've owned since 2004 and a car that I love, and apart from a part recon engine has served me well, of late though I've been getting the dreaded dashboard failure, speedo goes erratic, Fuel Gauge never telling the truth, i think the Temp Gauge, and mileometer are the only things working, I'm sure some people know this story oh too well, i don't want to spend any money only because of her age, and don't want to sell the car as a whole but thinking on the lines of it being an organ donor and selling off the parts, now being fellow Frontera owners what do i do :/ i did receive a scrap evaluation of £240, now sorry but the car Dashboard apart the car is superb, and i couldn't bear selling it and seeing it driving round, hence why I'm favouring the donor bit :/ look forward to hearing your views.

are you thinking of selling/scraping your fronty just because of the dash board fault ? if thats the case why not just get it repaired ? there are a couple of members who carry that out for a mimimal fee ! hipo1024 (dan) to name 1 .

No your not missing anything, i wont spend another penny on the car I'm afraid whether its minimal or not, but ill see how it goes on the interest of spares, if there's none £240 it is, I know its strange one me not wanting to sell as a whole but it more of a sentiment thing that i wont go into, just wanted to see peoples views and thanks for yours.

I'm sure someone on here would buy it off you as it is mate. (for a fair price)
Then get it fixed themselves.
I always find it a great shame when these fine vehicles are scrapped when there is absolutely no need.
Soon there wont be any left. :shock:

Obviously I'm not aware of what the sentiment issues are behind you not wishing to sell your Fronty to anyone else as is but just to make you aware you are potentially waving good bye to a fairly significant amount of money if the only issue is the dash board and you let it go for scrap at £240.

You should also be aware that just because you sell it to your local scrap yard for £240 scrap value their under no obligation to actually scrap it. Should they think they can make more money from it as it stands they can and often do sell them onto the public and members of the Motor Trade as spares or repair / trade sale vehicles so you may well still see it being driven around and have lost a good few hundred pounds on the sale of the car so just something to think about.

Thanks for the comments so far, and yes mate up until a week ago i was driving round in it, i just choose not to at the minute.

Dont break it or scrap. Send it to a loving home on here. Too many frontys are being broken these days in my opinion when simple things like this can be fixed!

Can i ask what your going to replace it with?, as £240 doest buy a lot. You would then (whether you like it or not) need to add more money.
That being the case, surely its better to spend the minimum amount to fix the clocks. Therefore keeping the vehicle you know so well & love
having had it 9 years. I have this dilema every time i see something i like

. But including buying converting to lpg & servicing.
My 3.2 still owes me nothing (i base my vehicles depreciation on £100/ month)...... eg if i spend £1600 i expect 16 months out of it.
Fix the clock & keep it, or sell it to another member, who will appreciate the care you have taken of it.

Another option would be to have a spanner party and let the boys who know how to fix it put it right for you. From what I gather its a simple fix once the dash is out. The cost to you would be zilch as long as you tempt the Foggers with the normal currency of bacon rolls and tea/coffee. Must be worth asking because the car must be for what ever reason valuable to you if only for the sentimental value. Agree with others I hate to see good motors go to the scrappy. For the sentimental value alone, keep her on the road.

If Fronteras were still made today id have another now, but age does get to them and I've really looked after mine, but dare i say i'm thinking of going to a Pathfinder, but that's up for debate as well.

I take it the date the thread was started is a clue to the anguish possibly caused to some Foggers?

if you are breaking it can i have the keys and log book .......... providing you have them of course . and have you got both little quarter lights or is one of them broken ? ignition barrel in good working order ? :lol:
