Pot Holes...

Good afternoon all. Just popped in to have a bitch about the state of the roads in my area. I'm guessing that I am not the only one that is less than impressed with the state of the Queens own highways ? I live in Devon, not known to have the smoothest of roads at the best of times but I have to say this winter is getting beyond a joke. I have just bounced my way down to the local garage and then bounced back. And after the short but bumpy journey I have a question.
Why do we all pay Road Tax ? Clearly it's not anything to do with maintaining the roads. Is there a underhand plan that I know nothing about ? Or maybe tarmac cost the same as Gold. I am glad I have a Frontera because anything smaller would have issues around here at the moment. Let me know if it's just us down here that have this problem or is it the rest of you. :shock:

Unfortunately road tax isn't actually for the roads! Its just another stealth tax local authorities are responsible for the state of the roads and with funding being significantly cut then this issue is only going to get worse!

and if i remember right
most local authorities have forms to claim for dammages caused by pot holes
as some have known to remove wheels from lesser cars

The so called "road tax" is just another scam to rip us down trodden motorist off, and apparently it's been going on since th1800's :evil:

It's not really a "road tax" as people refer to it. The money raised from people buying tax discs (about £6 billion or so) just gets lumped in with general tax revenue anyhow, has done since the 1920's IIRC. Same with fuel duty, although there's quite a lot more of that. Then it's doled out to wherever the House of Muppets think it's best.

As geeks says, it's the local authorities who deal with roads now, with the exception of motorways and trunk roads which belong to the Highways Agency, so any claims or complaints need to go to the relevant local authority.
