Hi folks. Dunno if you have seen the thread by Kotch : viewtopic.php?f=32&t=53556&p=573741#p573741But he is going to attempt a round the country tour of the UK stopping in as many counties as possible. Vehicle of choice a 2.2 Dti. He seems to have a few running issues and I jokingly said he could drive to Norwich for me to have a ganders. Anyways the crazy fool took me up on the offer. Things that need looking at are inlet manifold (full of gunk I would guess) and vacuum pipes. Also a good once over by a few experienced eyes to prep him for his mammoth tour. My next couple of weekends are booked but I am free the 6th and 13th April. Who is up for popping over and giving us a hand. Kettle will be available, though sadly cakeless unless you bring your own or pop to Sainsburys down the road. If nothing else there is a cracking greasy spoon over the road. Oh and as an added bonus you will be the first people to see my new truck I am picking up at the end of the month. Usual thing ... names please, and preferred dates: RatCav Kotch

Did he have a word with Gareth? He did the same in his mega mileage 2.2Dti (that one up Greg's workshop) a couple of years back. If I've got my facts right, Gareth started in London on a Sunday, heading Kent bound first before going all the way around mainlane UK clockwise and getting back some time the following Tuesday. Recall him telling us how knackered he was at the end of it. Have you got a sweep stake running with a guestimate to the mileage he will do? Won't spoil the fun but it's alot more than I would have anticipated.

Hi Guys
This is getting good. I didn't realise this thread had even started. I've put both dates in my diary so just waiting for confirmation of which.
Do I need to start to think about materials? I read on a thread about vacuum tubes that six metres is needed, any suggestions where I buy this stuff?

Also do I need to get things like gaskets if we are going to be taking manifolds off and the like?
I've looked at my Sat Nav and it seems it's only just over a couple of hours to Norwich so quite doable there and back in a day.

I got my vac pipe off eBay... 3mm stuff is perfect for the job...costs about £7. And yes you'll need both top and bottom inlet manifold gaskets. I got mine from the dealer cost about £15 wish. Might be worth doing a oil and filter change too if your going to do that sort of milage And I'm the same as Andy...depends on the money situation.

Taken from this thread : viewtopic.php?f=41&t=45930Parts required The inlet manifold is made up of two parts. Upper and lower, and as such you will require two steel gaskets. For what they cost I strongly advise you getting them from VX. Part numbers below. 90572108 gasket x 1 - £5.75 + V.A.T 90500940 gasket x 1 - £4.59 + V.A.T You will need a primer bulb as well (again Eblag). I don't know what size. Perhaps someone can enlighten us? As for the vacuum hosing, you need about 6m of 3mm ID silicone hose. Your choice of colour, but something other than black to tell what has been replaced. Eblag is the place to go for it.

You can prime them by pressurising the tank with nothing more than a tyre inflator...if I can make it I have primed mine and others a handful of times with 100% success, even at the side of the read and down a green lane so its not hard and doesn't take very long.

Apologies ... was away for the weekend and turned my phone off for some much needed peace and quiet.
Anyways this is a shamless bump to confirm numbers etc.
