Well after managing to kill the ML on Christmas eve, I need to replace my day to day runner.

I will be using the LWB until the insurance decide to do the decent thing but then I'm being lured by the dark side what does the team think ?

Thats a lot of car for the money....but that always scares me as it can be a lot of money when it goes wrong, but in fairness that probably no different to the ML.
Does look nice though

You would be surprised how cheap to run the ML was servicing was reasonable and parts not that bad

what about a g280 there is a few of thoes around and they look smart

Defenders you can drive for long journeys without being rendered quadrapleigic and with luxuries like carpets and sound deadening. Heh heh, I do Like em but surprised to see one at that price!

G-wagons are uber-cool...and come with difflocks too...
They are so heavy that they would sink in concrete, and some can be underpowered...but an awesome piece of engineering.
A bit agricultural for a daily driver though...unless you spend mega bucks...but with some weight shaving make brill offroaders.

Had my mates X5 the other day, and I have to say that drives beautifully on the road, back of grunt to, infact its pretty damn quick...With its 20" rims and tyres nearly as wide it would be hopeless off road on all but a field...but I was really impressed with it. I would have one.

I do like the Merc G series but for 10k you're getting a 21 or 22 year old truck for the same money you can get a 2003 - 2004 Disco 3 or a Rangie with about 90k on the clock.
The Land Rover reliability improved in leaps and bounds in the early naughties, well anything other than the P38 that is.

I did look at the X5 when I got the ML but the lack of low range and the cost of consumables put me off the standard wheel size is a one off and it worked out for a mate of mine with one to buy a set of aftermarket wheels so he could afford a full set of tyres, he paid around 1250.00 for 4 wheels and tyres when the standard tyres were nearly £600 each not sure if that's still the case but it made me think twice.

If you gotta go Landy give the Rangey a miss and get the D3 with the TDV6 diesel and autobox. Makes a good cruiser and tow wagon if you need it, comfy good road manners and reliable for a landy.
