Speed camera ??

Anybody been hit by a road side speed camera ? Just wondering they send a nice wee picture for the photo album ??????
Wife was doing 78ish mph !!!!, in a area were they sit atleast 6days a week !

They dont send a photo just a fine :wink:

It may be that the local road safety partnership run a 'speed awareness' course that the errant driver can sign up for (at a cost mind) but these are normally only available for a first offence and then one that is below the national limit of 70, if over 70 then they get a bit anal.

Of course, there may be extenuating circumstances... she was a lone female driver, sacred stupid because of that perverted nutter that was making leary looks and gestures at her in the traffic in town caught up with her about 3 miles back and she booted it away from him....

That said, if court is on the cards and loss of licence etc... Get legal advice and check...

All details on the letter (NIP), are they correct? Spelt right, time right etc etc, do they compare EXACTLY with plods evidential paperwork?

Was the 'camera' (not all handheld devices used by plod are cameras) used in date re calibration? Did plod fill in the form (part of the evidence provided) stating when they started the shift, left the nick, checked the camera calibration (on a fixed object) on arrival at the trap and before using it. AND re-checked the calibration on a fixed object after use and before leaving the trap?

Was plod actually trained to use the camera, and is that training still in date?

No issues ref losing licene she only passed last month so does mean she only has 6 to play with !

She may need to resit the test depending how many points she gets within the first six months or something like that.

You can get 6 points in the frat 2 years of passing your test ! Maybe a wake up call ! Lead footed muppet !

I contested a ticket about 6 years ago , I was a taxi driver for a wee while ( hackney ) and a got a ticket saying I was doing 80 on a duel carrage way ! I contested it because I know the cab I had a at the time would push 55 at the max , maybe 60 going down hill !

they are trialing these new ones in Nottingham currently being tested on a52

This is on the A52 into Nottingham (x2), six are in operation on the A1 between Gt Gonerby and Oakham.

What speed limit exists on the road ?

normally within a fortnight.......my mate got caught on his bike,told him to ask for picture and when it came through i was in front of him with him just covering most of my number plate

Had mine through last week 52 in a 40. Bloke in front on the duel carriageway was p1ss1ng me off so I overtook. A bit fast mind you! Got either a £60 fine +3points or a Speed awareness course that cost £80 but no points. If you get points your insurance goes up. :thumbup:

Justdan, how accurate is your cars speedometer?

It will be pretty much the same as every other car speedo in that it will display you as going faster than you actually are.
If the car was clocked at 78 mph, speedo will have been showing over 80.

As Frank suggests, you can try contesting it and querying the paperwork, but such basic errors are rare these days, especially at common sites.
Give it a fortnight and see what drops in the post as you can't do anything until the letter arrives. She may be lucky and get away with it, unfortunately you won't know if you will be offered a driving course until after you've sent the form back but by thenyou've accepted the ticket and can't appeal.

Meanwhile, tell your missus to go easy on the loud pedal and pay attention if she wants to avoid another test.

That's my thoughts no point stressing untill it drop thro the door !

And as for mrs lead foot she has been well and truly told ! Can you get a alarm that goes stupid when you hit speed limit !!??? Ya can get m on modern cars ! Lol

Now you mention it our Citroen has an audible over speed warning

I've just had to do a speed awarness course £80.00 verses £60.00 +6 points. No contest really with my driving history. It was a very good course with a very good instructor, I actually learnt some stuff too. Iwas doing 35 in a 30 and could have contested it but couldn't see the point. Once you have done the course the offence record is expunged after a year.
