Re: LWB Fronty ?Why not consider a B-series if it's going to be the family type motor, Rob?
Don't get me wrong, I love my 2.8's, but if I didn't use (or plan to use) the 2.8 LWB offroad, I'd go with a DTi. Bit more refined, quieter, rather than sounding like a slightly rattly tractor. Jim...

Re: LWB Fronty ?Jim the only thing that puts me off a b series is my last 2.2 lasted less that 30 days so my 2.5 loved it but the 2.2 was not so good . i am just asking peoples opinions of theirs and see where i go from their as i have the money just nothing jumping out at me right now.

Re: LWB Fronty ?wasnt that a 2.2 petrol Rob ?
If you want a bit more refinement , but like the 2.8 isusu engine , why not get a Trooper ? Much more civilised but with the same super reliable lump under the bonnet
Re: LWB Fronty ?7 Years and no major problems (barring the timing belt, my fault not the engines
The Picasso we have at the moment is shaping up to be the second best but we have only had that about three years. The 2.8 has been thrashed in the past by me and other than the above its only been service items, had it been on road only with no modifications this car would have been unbelievably cheap to run even taking fuel into consideration. The agricultural aspect of the car I feel is there but a little exaggerated but I do feel I am driving a "proper" car even though its not the fastest lump it still shifts (tweak What do you want? Fun and fast? Fun and go anywhere? Plain old boring? Your like me in the mid life zone...enjoy the crisis FFS Get a decent stereo, some balls and man up, go 2.8 Ste

Re: LWB Fronty ?Go mad and buy a fronty b and put a 2.8 or a 3.1 out of a trooper in it i am saving my cash to do this
Re: LWB Fronty ?For a family car I would definitely say B series, the parents 2.2 petrol they never really had any major engine problems we just found it under powered when towing then the cam belt snapped which was our fault for not changing it early enough and just couldn't get it running right so we dropped another engine in it and its better than its ever been.
2.2dti are fine but as you know suffer from fuel pump problems. 3.2 for something thats fun, powerfull and better if its been lpg converted

Re: LWB Fronty ?For me the 2.2 petrols have been great, as with anything just maintain them properly and you'll be fine.

Re: LWB Fronty ?Will you be getting rid of the shorty or keeping as a toy. If your keeping the shorty why not look at something like the Skoda Octavia tdi estate excelent realiability, plenty of room for the family and average mpg return of 40+, they come in 3 different bhp 90, 110 and 130. The 90 is a bit under powered, the 110 is the most common and just about right excellent for towing the caravan too, and the 130 is like rockiing horse poop but very powerful.
