banter general discussions etc

was at work on tuesday evening and got a phone call to say my boy had been in a serious crash on his motorbike. left work and rang the police on my way home for more details - was told he was on route to carlisle infirmary. picked up the wife and shot to the hospital, he hadnt arrived yet, another ambulance pulled in - he will be in this one i was told and a pregnant woman got out . with that his friend rings me to find out whats happening ,when i told him he wasnt at hospital yet he said (quote) " how the **** did you beat the air ambulance to the hospital ?". my arse hit the floor - sounds really bad. back into the hospital- we not expecting the air ambulance . half hour later we get told he has been air lifted to newcastle RVI - arse falls through the floor - ultra mega serious accident if they have taken him there. thoughts of neck ,back injuries etc. shoots through to newcastle still not knowing any details and gets in to find him sitting up in bed ,off his trolley on morphine saying " hiya dad i broke me leg in 3 places and look, the bone is sticking through my thigh" . on the bright side, that is his only injury and it wasnt his fault. some woman had pulled out of a side road without seeing him and he had gone into the side of the car at around 50mph. cars written off, bikes written off and he is gonna be off work for 3-6 months. the annoying part is- when i rang the police and was told he was on route ,he was still lying at the scene because the air ambulance didnt leave the scene till 7 so i could have gone straight there instead of turning off home. but he is doing ok and he will mend in time, people say he is unlucky - i think he is one very lucky boy as it could have been a lot worse

Pass on best wishes for a quick successful recovery. Could have been far worse but look forward.

Ouch! I know the feeling, give him our regards. Sounds like more than 3-6 months off though. Broke my tib/fib and was 12 months before I could walk properly! Oh and listen to the Physio's advice, it will really help in the long run.

That is a nasty and serious injury he got there, glad he's on the mend.
It's no wonder the Air Ambulance was called in with that one, think it may even be the SOP when attending a bike accident, a far better, smoother ride for the patient and also increases the options for getting the patient to the best place for treatment. There should be more Air Ambulances and they should all be fully funded by the Govt and not needing charity handouts.
This posting may have been helpfull, on the other hand probably not... Either way, I may have had drink when posting it in which case it's probably not as helpfull as it could have been Work safe, and remember all technical problems can be resolved with a hammer, the trick is knowing where to hit it and how big a hammer to use (I often find it may also help to have a spare bit in the shed to replace the bit you have just mullered ) Work in Progress (or not as the case may be) I give you....
