ANOTHER 2.4 SAVED FROM THE NACKERS YARD

i got the mot on the 2.4 yesterday, it needed two outer cv boots, and a near side bottom ball joint, and the off side front bracke was enificiant, what a dirty job stripping out them cvs, all done and dusted for another year :thumbup:

Off road is everything Greg and Jim say. I've sat in Gregs 2.4 as it climbs a hill in the woods in 1st gear on tickover :shock:

and right behind us was a 2.8 which took a little more effort :lol:

So off road they seem quite good

But I've owned one myself and towed a caravan 3000 miles to the Alps for a 3 month winter snowboarding holiday. Very heavy on petrol and really slow, with a caravan in tow they struggle to get over 60mph and the hills are hard work. It was a very comfortable and stable drive though. Cant fault a 2.4 except for its power on road

But that engine in a 2.0??????? what u reckon?? is that sumat u could do Rob!??????? :think:

I miss my 2.4 still.
They seemed to get a bad rep and I picked up a good one in 2008 for £300.
Bit underpowered for on road, heavy on fuel and good grungy engine for off road about sums it up.

Never seen one in a SWB but could be a serious tool I'd guess!

Could do as not too many electrics to worry about which is a good thin as electrics and myself aren't friends :lol:

The main issue would be space and time. You thinking of a conversion Danny?

Ive owned my 2.4 for nearly 4 years and I like it. Ive not really had any major problems with it and Ive never had it off road. :lol:

The reason they do so well at low revs compared to the 2.8 is the lack of turbo. The 4JB1 needs that turbo spinning to get full potential, hence the need for a few extra beans to climb hills. Down hill idle though they are pretty much the same I would of thought. mainly due to huge great hoofing cylinders in an engine that is made entirely of pig iron.

i like the 2.4 truck apart from the fuel cosumption hence its name GAS GUZZLER, there is not much to go wrong realy, as i am lead to belive its an old school opel manta engine and they were highley tunable ...................pete
