check if your car is stolen advice?

Hi can anyone recommend a car checker? I am buying a corsa sport on friday but am a bit concerned that it dont have no history,no cd key,and no alloy wheel key. I am after seeing if it has ever been written off and as much history i can possibly find out about the car. Thanks in advance cheers Adrian

BE WARNED !! the majority of the tv advertised car data checks do not cover outstanding finance/hp. and are therefore very basic. you'll have to pay about 20-30 quid to get a proper "see all " check done.
had issues with a rover i purchased 2 years ago,,,, did the car data check £5 ,, came back all clear... happy days i think to my self and buy it. 3 months on i put the car into the local car auction and later recieved a call from the auction to tell me the car was showing as having outstanding hp/finance on ( odd, as i payed cash and car was over 10 years old), and that therefore they couldn't enter the car in auction.
the auction house is also duty bound to inform the local authorities (police&finance company) that im trying to sell a "stolen" car....
i had to contact the finance company through the auction house, and get the finance marker removed (until it is, the vehicle is still the property of the finance company, and they have the right to snatch it back under certain circumstances, or indeed report it stolen !!)
seems the previous owner had purchased it on finance 8 years before me , and had in fact cleared all finance outstanding, but the company had failed to remove it from the system!!!
took 2 weeks to sort out... so be warned, these £5 checks are not worth the effort.. id rather pay 20-30 quid for peace of mind.

Surprised no-one has mentioned the old faithful HPi...

was hpi that the auction used to check the car,,, much more detailed check than these txt check and so on,,, but thena fiver for the text check and upwards of 25 quid for a proper hpi,,,, i guess u get what you pay for.

I've received my new RED vehicle registration Certificate... Quote'' as they are replacing all the existing blue V5Cs apparently a number of blank blue V5Cs are being stolen,so having this red/pink V5Cs is going to reduce motorist buying stolen or cloned vehicles''... but if you have a printer then the pink or red as they like to call it, can't you just photo copy it, like they have with the blue ? Am I missing something here

The Blue they used to use was called "non reproducing blue" for obvious reasons and should not be able to be reproduced by photographic means, years back the colour was changed for what ever reason.

I would think the new red text on a pink background or visa versa would be for the same sort of reason not many scanner devices would be able to tell the difference between the two and would just reproduce as a red square and the text would merge into the background.

With every thing now done digitally it make things very difficult for old school forgers, like most thing these days a a dying art

If you have any reason or niggling doubts about buying a car DONT there are plenty more of them out there. Sure you may miss a bargain every now & again, what price the bargain, if you end up buying it twice..... if in doubt Walk away!

dvla had a load of blank log books stolen a while ago,you can check what serial numbers they are between but i think that is why they are changing them all to the new ones......
