Petrol or dieselI am looking for a new fronty and have mailny been going for the 2.2tdi, i have found a 2.2 petrol that i like and wanted opinions.
Is there really much difference in consumption between the two with the current fuel prices?? Also has anyone had a series b fronty 2.2 petrol and if they have what are they like.?? Thanks Rich
Re: Petrol or dieselTaking cost difference into account of the fuel they are roughly the same, but the DTI is a much more solid engine.

Re: Petrol or dieselThanks mate, thought the consumption wouldnt be far off but from what ive heard i agree with the dti being the better, i took one on a test drive the other day and it was nice to drive as well. Just having problems trying to find one at the mo.

Re: Petrol or dieselRich mate please dont quote the above poster  ta
I could do with changing asap as i need the extra space really that the only problem at the moment. But im hoping to be able to hold out for a bit because i would rather get a 2.2 TDI if i can. Last edited by Drift on Sat Jan 14, 2012 8:46 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Re: Petrol or dieselAlways ask if the Dti has had a pump in it's recent history, and by that I mean last 2 yrs. If not factor in £500 of your purchase price for a new pump and stick the money under your mattress or somewhere else the wife wont find it.
So If your budget is £1500 , spend £1000 on the car and wedge £500 away for a pump. Stick to that and you'll be a very happy bunny. Don't buy a Y22 engined Dti (in my opinion) , buy an X22 (pre 2001 model year). Good luck
Re: Petrol or dieselwhat would be the going price for a x reg 2.2tdi ?? im looking at one with a reserve price of £1300 at the mo.
Thanks
Re: Petrol or dieselThat isn't miles off, depending on condition. The first question you ask a seller is the one about the pump.
Re: Petrol or dieselok thanks, it looks in good condition ect, ill check about the pump. thanks
Re: Petrol or dieselWhy dont you save yourself all the hassle n just get yourself a V6? almost bomb proof engine, not that much differant to the 2.2 petrol on fuel if you drive normally

Re: Petrol or dieselInteresting that you slate the 2.2's in every thread ,then try and sell Richard your Dad's 2.2
Re: Petrol or dieselIm open to opinions tbh , if the fuel economy on the v6's is good (because thats the main issue with it being used for work) plus the insurance doesnt take a massive leap up in price then they sound good to me lol
Thanking you all
Re: Petrol or dieselNot trying to sell it him mate, just mentioned he was thinkin of sellin it n said id ask as he was interested! And for the record my old man loves his n had it ages! I just had bad experiances with the 2 ive had n IN MY OPINION,which is also differant to my dads by the way, they are the weakest n worst of the fronteras. if its ok for me to voice my opinions then that was all i was doin.

Re: Petrol or dieselWe both agree that the 2.2 petrol is the lame duck of the range. I just couldn't get my head around why you were then trying to sell him one that's all
Re: Petrol or dieselboth the 2.2 & 3.2 are going to be worse for fuel consumption that the 2.2 dti richard
WHY AINT I GOT AN ALL SINGING & ALL DANCING SIGNATURE LIKE BOXY & DRIFTY ?

Re: Petrol or dieselI wasnt, i was trying to help a fellow member out. if he was goin to buy a 2.2 petrol which we both agree are crap, then he may aswell get one thats been looked after and has no faults and to quote our lasses dad who was a vauxhall mechanic for 9 yrs, "the best one hes seen for years". just being the nice guy that i am thats all.
