One of the promblebs is the electronic hand brake

i have the v6 Laguna 02 plate.....fantastic car,,,,,real comfort.....and yes they do have all the electronics,,,,,,,you either love em or hate em....mine has never gone wrong,,,,

having worked with Renault's best avoided unless you've got money to burn!!

I cant really comment, but I spent 3 days stripping, repairing the head/valves and rebuilding a Clio II engine. Not so bad for a non/home mechanic thats never worked an a Renault.

Then 2 weeks to find the electrical connections/faulty earth to the ECU ;-)

that just happened to fail at the same time as the cambelt.

Sorry for the negativity but my old man had the 1.9, when driving in the wet the ar5e end liked to overtake the front on islands and bends(yes i know its FWD i couldnt figure it out either) the electrics kept having gremlins and in the end the engine electrics shorted out and burnt the car out.

Personally i would avoid.

never owned one but used to see a lot of them in the workshop with the aforementioned electrical problems,think you either get lucky with one or you get one that is waiting to go wrong......

I have to agree with the reputation of electrical problems ... also spares can be quite expensive as well. As for the car itself they are comfy, but no better/worse than a Mondeo/Vectra of the same age.

Hmmmm a Renault eh, one of the few car brands that I have not owned personally

But I know people who have - and I can tell you that they weren't that pleased with them.

Some of the components don't seem to have a lot of longevity in them especially for a new car, (worn brake discs etc).

It would not be my choice of car to buy. Looking after a Fronty is enough for me ha ha .....

I'm on my third Renault since 1997 - very comfortable cars. I've had a Mk1 Laguna estate from new (1997-2005 excellent); (2005 -2010 Espace mk3 (2000reg) -very good); 2010-present Mk4 Espace ((2004 reg) - very good).

Cost of repairs is always a worry but they are cheaper than a BMW/Ford/others which are not without their electronic gremlins either.

The daughter inlaw owns a 06 espace,the diesel engines a good lump,but i'am afraid the electrics let it down,2 keyless entry cards,£100 each,including
programing,electric handbrake problems,electric window motors both front and rear.
Having said all that,most cars have there faults,if you like the Laguna and everything works as it should,then i would say go for it.

I have got a 2001 Laguna 1.9dci Estate, had it for 6 yrs, It's had the usual electrical probs, 6th gear is good on Autoroute only 2200rpm @130kph
Roadholding/cornering excellent when 17inch wheels fitted. but hopeless on ice and snow. It's a cable handbrake on a 2001.

Had a Renault before , funny enough that was a PUSH start as well :wall:

e3jcr, sure yours was a PUSH start and not one that had the hole in the front bumper to insert the starting handle?

We have a 52plate 1.8 petrol. It's been a great motor.Electric problems have been, coil packs, window motor switches and the key cards which i had repaired on an overnight service for less than £30.00 each.

I would also like some advice from the hardened Fronty fans !! Please help !! On the way to work in my recently purchased t reg 2.2 petrol, my oil light came on. Level was ok. Changed oil and filter but pressure light is still on and tappets are still noisy and bone dry. Im assuming the next step is oil pump swap ? Anybody done one? Any help would be really appreciated. Thanx

1 last question guys i can,t make head nor tails of the car tax bands,so does anybody know how much to tax a 2002 laguna 1870 cc diesel. thank,s,oh my estranged wife is offering to go halves on the fuel for the fronty so then she says keep her,women weird or what lol.

i think yours has co2 level off 157 g/km so will put you in band G so tax will be £165.00 py £90.75 for 6 mths
