Well, anywhere with potential sparks or ignition sources really...
Hence why chargers invariably recommend use in a well ventilated area, etc. Good video though.

Sorry but that is the worst video for dangers i have seen come on " you dont need this in your workshop" really sherlock i thought i did want a face full of acid and acid in my workshop

Many many years ago I recall buying a number of caravans for my staff to work on sites around the UK. One needed the battery charging on site, so while the guys were using it, I had it on charge. The battery lived under a seat. The men complained a lot about the smell of rotten eggs at that time, blaming the loo and bathroom arrangements, but I later realised it was the gases from the battery, and they were smoking in that caravan too..............

When i worked with my dad on milk floats ahd to be careful due to the batteries he used to tell me stories of them rotting your teeth

when i did my apprenticeship i checked a headlamp on a battery getting charged and it sparked

big bang no battery no headlight unit overalls covered in acid & nearly no right eye

when i was an apprentice i was the one who loaded the two 24v battieries into the van to jump start the trucks when i worked for dunns by end of winter i would go trough many a pair of trousers an used have no hairs an my legs had number of acid burns

Entirely off topic I know, but in my early twenties I used to shoot rabbits with a lamp. The motorcycle 6v lead acid battery was hung from a thick leather belt around my waist, in the small of my back. After a few weeks of doing this for about three hours each night, the kit fell away from my body. The acid / fume egress had burned through about three mm of rawhide leather.

I posted this up for discussion and for other people to share their experiences too,but mainly for people that didnt know about the dangers that lay in charging batteries (safety) but its not to frighten anyone either.
