Frontera alternatives

OK, just thinking out loud really.

Have been looking at Troopers but I won't pay the premium for a 'modern' looking one. The only other cheap 'n' cheerful LWB 4x4 that came to mind was the Terrano/Maverick.
My old dear had one a few years ago, a poverty model with windy up windows, but it was bullet proof, never missed a beat, plus it'll run on bio very nicely :wink:

Anyone any other suggestions or comments/opinions on the Terrano/Maverick ?

And before I get flamed, there will still be a Frontera in the fleet!

Surf is definitely one to throw in the pot. Fourtrak was just SWB though wasn't it ?

I find the terrano too tall and narrow, though most do have lsd standard.

Daihatsu did a swb, and a bit longer one, but thats not really a lwb though...

The big question is, what do you want to do with the truck? Is it a family hack or offroad monster your after?

Yeah, it must be LWB whatever it is. Gotta fit some very long, very heavy things in it on a regular basis.

Erm, a bit of both Ste. The Dti was just about presentable enough when I was visiting clients, but did very well on the lanes and could carry long heavy stuff!

I certainly don't want an offroad monster as I don't do any off roading. It would also need to like Bio :wink:

I did think about one of these when I bought the Fronty but they seemed very agricultural in comparison, and a bit sit up and beg.

Also don't rule out the Sangyong Karando (I think thats how it's spelt) it's got a Mercedes 2.8 diesel and is good for about 38 to 40 mpg on a run and it's suppose to be good offroad but don't quote me on that.

Its either LR, or a Musso with the 2.9 turbo in and an intercooler that has been designed to scoop up rocks :lol:

I have pondered this one for years. I always come back to Frontera's and Troopers.

To be honest I'm leaning towards the Mav/terrano

I was super impressed with my terrano , wasn't much good inn the snow tho....... Ran well , took pure veg oil on many occasions lol ....... Laid up for almost a year , battery on and whoop she fired up to be loaded onto a scrap wagon lol :twisted:

Gotta be honest Si...I LOVE the Nissan Patrol. I saw a P reg 4.2 Auto go round Drumclog on standard road tyres...and he only got stuck once. Amazing!!

Its a fine engine the 2.9 turbo (not the N/A 2.9) 5 Cylinder but the car has a badly designed front end for off rod use as the intercooler is slung ridiculously low at the front.
It is big enough though and has SOF 4wd on a vac system and can run SVO, WVO or BIO.
Gearbox selector is a weak point its a cable.
The suspension is very like the Fronteras but the engine is a 5 pot and goes like stink its the really old Merc sprinter engine.

A patrol is gonna be about 3.5k upwards

Looking at the Musso's on ebay , if they get any cheaper McDonalds will be giving them away with a Happy Meal

Can get a diesel version too. Still a 4.2 6cyl though. God, I'd want one!
