Decisions decisions. feel free to throw abuse.Ok first thing first, i sold my last Fronty 2 months ago and bought a Discovery. I seem to forget that despite owning 4 Discos in the past, all 4 have broke down on me. And on the M5 last week with a caravan on the back, this one was no exception.
So it has now been sold and gone from my life forever. What also dawned on me was ive owned 7 Frontera, and not one has ever let me down. Ever. And every one of them has towed a caravan. In 2007 i bought a brand new Shogun Sport and the criteria for a new 4x4 was it had to be "as good as a Fronty". So lesson learned at last, head bowed, in corner shuffling sand with my feet. I am back to buy a Fronty and stop being such a knob. So problem is which one? Its going to be a LWB "B" series. But either 2.2 DTi or 3.2 V6. Auto or manual? Its a second car mainly only used for towing once or twice a month and i expect to do less than 150 miles a month on average, so a 3.2 V6 is a possibility. So what would YOU guys do? 2.2 DTI 3.2V6 Auto or manual? Its gonna tow a caravan at 1550 KGS. In Consilio Sapienta
Re: Decisions decisions. feel free to throw abuse.150 miles a month I'd get a V6. Cheap as chips at the moment as well.
Re: Decisions decisions. feel free to throw abuse.I agree with si
Loads and loads of power for towing You could even by mine as mine is for sale
Re: Decisions decisions. feel free to throw abuse.3.2 manual plus sequential lpg if available!
we have both auto and manual I like autos but these seem to be unreliable compaired to manual box
Re: Decisions decisions. feel free to throw abuse.150 miles of towing
3.2 V6 manual ... because I like power and hate auto's. ![]() ![]() My members ride For Banshee the Trooper : viewtopic.php?f=46&t=34626 My members ride for Leeloo the Lotus Edition viewtopic.php?f=46&t=60154 Deceased My members ride for Brenda the Bighorn : viewtopic.php?f=46&t=54771
Re: Decisions decisions. feel free to throw abuse. How "unreliable" is the auto on either the 2.2 DTi or the V6?
After a few discussions with SWMBO im leaning towards a 2.2 as despite not a lot of towing we will be toodling round areas when caravan is pitched. So whats the auto like? In Consilio Sapienta
Re: Decisions decisions. feel free to throw abuse.I must be in full agreement with the others on this it makes more sence to get the V6 its got all the power and more than you will need to tow the caravan. and they look good too!! You could also look out for one fitted with LPG to keep cost down even more.

Re: Decisions decisions. feel free to throw abuse.3.2 v6 , lpg conersion all day long pal............ they got more grunt than a pig farm
Re: Decisions decisions. feel free to throw abuse.Ok so the leaning is towards a 3.2, but either way how unreliable is the auto? Keeping in mind most of its time it will have 1500 kgs of caravan on back?

Re: Decisions decisions. feel free to throw abuse.A quick look through the gearbox section will tell you they are pretty good mate. Very few issues that a proper oil change won't sort by the look of it.
Re: Decisions decisions. feel free to throw abuse.Anyone know if the 3.2 comes with traction control? just wondering.

Re: Decisions decisions. feel free to throw abuse.Don't think any fronty had traction control, LSD is the best you can hope for I think.

Re: Decisions decisions. feel free to throw abuse.Seen Colleys for sale, but i need a LWB.
Stuff the LPG route, i wont be doing the mileage to warrant it. On average apart from a small toodle to the shops once a week, the fronty will drag the caravan on a 80 mile round trip once a month. Rest of the time she will sit on the driveway so LPG not really worth the cost. In Consilio Sapienta
