Non Fronti Help Required

Evening folks i was wondering if someone can help. I have an old friend who is not into computers , web etc and is needing to change a hub on his Disco now he has ordered the Hub etc himself and it wanting to do the job himself. Now he is needing a Torque wrench which has the capability to torque up to 490NM and is wanting something which is good quality and at the same time cheap and something with some kind of warranty has to be new though. I do have a couple of guys on the forum who could help me out with this request but i thought i would put it out across the forum.

I have seen some of these wrenches at tyre fitting garages etc . He is wanting something decent as he hopes to make some money doing them for other people once he has done his own.

If he's doing his ,then going to be charging his mates, tell him to stop being a tightass and spend some money on a decent bit of kit!

so he want something that wont brake the bank as if people aint willing to pay he will just need it for himself and how often does a hub get changed

Aye, that's LGV wheelnut levels of torque... Does he really need that much for doing Lawn Rover hubs, etc???
Actually, on that note, it may pay him to have a word with a truck tyre fitter, and see if they can recommend something. IF he decides that a torque wrench of that spec is too expensive then if he puts the hub on himself the fitter could probably be talked into torquing it up for a few beer tokens. They're usually fairly amenable chaps if they can see a drink or three in it for em.

Hi All

For 490Nm your looking at Snap-on; Britool and the like. He'll be parting with serious money. I've done several hub bearings on Defenders; RRC's; and D1 Disco's, never needed a big torque wrench, they're just 2 nuts and a lock tab. May be he's doing D2/3 or 4's, never done them so I don't know whats fitted!!
