Re: cambeltAuto data is telling me 1.90 hours, I would take that as just over two hours I think, you should get the kit for about £70 to £80

Re: cambeltI usually work hourly rates at £45 an hour so with the garages add to the parts and 20% VAT say £210

Re: cambeltHi Jim,
Retro & myself are doing mine in 3 weeks time and we're allowing 4 hours & Pete has done one before. This is because a pulley can be a bit of a bitch to get off unless you have in impact wrench (I think that was what Pete said - not sure which pulley he was talking about though) Kit cost me £65.00 off flebay + postage Fitting charge £0.00 - Ok a few beers at the annual meet and petrol money Power of FOG - Priceless Traffic lights in London are just rough guidelines

Might as well swap the water pump as well while your in there, saves having to drag it all apart again. This posting may have been helpfull, on the other hand probably not... Either way, I may have had drink when posting it in which case it's probably not as helpfull as it could have been
Work safe, and remember all technical problems can be resolved with a hammer, the trick is knowing where to hit it and how big a hammer to use (I often find it may also help to have a spare bit in the shed to replace the bit you have just mullered Work in Progress (or not as the case may be) I give you.... 'O-no' the truck. Comments on 'O-no' the truck may be left here Work in Progress (or not as the case may be) I give you.... 'Truck' Comments on 'Truck' the truck may be left here Owning a 2.8 is a hobby in it's self...

Re: cambeltThink you are missing the point guys, he is looking for 'worst case scenario' having to pay for it, for everything, how much might it be, he can then use this figure as a bargaining chip in his, erm, negotiations

Re: cambeltYou've got it Ste - when I did mine the 4 bolts that secure the bottom pulley to the crank shaft had a lot of surface rust and I rounded a couple off - then I forced a smaller socket on and gave them a whack with a hand held impact driver and that done the trick.
I know my motor had been standing for a few months before I bought it so surface rust did give me aggro when doing certain jobs, this was one of them. With the ability to lock the fuel pump up, I found doing the cam belt on the 2.8 straight forward. I used a fisherman's hand held scales to gauge the tension when tensioning the belt up. Book of lies refers to hanging weights on the tensioner before tightening.
