Re: Anyone used Slick50 ?Yep I put the stuff in all my cars as soon as I get them, seems to do what it says on the tin and apart from killing the Turbo on the fronty yesterday I've had no problems. The wifes wee MX5 is probably only still going because of the stuff, in the past she wasent that good at checking the oil and it's got a wee low a few times, like off the dipstick low.
You do have to 'top' it up once/twice a year though. And I havent tried it in the final drives yet. This posting may have been helpfull, on the other hand probably not... Either way, I may have had drink when posting it in which case it's probably not as helpfull as it could have been

Re: Anyone used Slick50 ?I dont generally use additives but tested the water with molyslip a few years ago, my mind was made up when coming home from a days laning in Wales Tim Bumptj was in his 2.8 and dropped all his oil and didnt know untill he got home, and that was with a motorway journey (god knows when he lost the oil) he checked it and it was empty but the engine ran well, he had used molyslip in his oil, he refilled the oil and ran for another year or so with no problems before selling it and that was about three years ago and the car is running fine now.

Re: Anyone used Slick50 ?Makes you wonder why manufacturers don't use similar additives either when car is assembled or recommend addding it after engine has bedded in. Thereagain, repairs might decrease but purchasers looking for reliability would certainly be interested.

Re: Anyone used Slick50 ?I believe the molilibium (or something) found in molyslip is used in the aircraft industry, not sure if its true.

Re: Anyone used Slick50 ?Do not use gearbox oil additive in a Frontera as our cars use engine oil in the gearbox and gearbox oil additive is not compatible.

Re: Anyone used Slick50 ?I will have to check on the auto box as the rickety old A series I am used to didnt have autos
It very likely depends on the product at what temperature it works, I know some cheap products are like an oil thickener and come out like syrup, these tend to quiet and engine down short term but soon thin out, molyslip is very fluid but I have not looked into the temperature properties. Though all that said if you have decent quality engine oil in your manual box you will be fine without an additive as said it doesnt get as hot as the engine and it does not suffer from carbon build up like in an engine so lasts considerably longer and does not need filtering.
