MOT day

Postby voodoocars on Tue Jan 25, 2011 6:28 pm

Well the MOT was done today. I had it booked in to see why the abs light was on sometimes (see my other thread in brake section) and it turned out to be the offside front sensor. Luckily the guys at the garage said that if it was reset and not driven over 20 mph it wouldnt come back on and would pass an mot... Quick as a flash I got it booked in later same day for MOT so it wouldnt be driven anywhere and low and behold it passed ! Without any other faults by the way...
They said that the light was on during the test but when it was driven up the road it went out and after 3 ignition on/off tests it stayed off - MOT pass and no advisories.. :D
The manager at the garage also said that it was the best Frontera that they have had thru' the garage in a long time (I know, I look after it) so that was an added bonus. To have the abs sensor replaced would have cost £346.80 parts n labour then £45 for MOT. I have just payed £100 for test and diagnostic so I feel a lot better.
Now I know what sensor it is I can try cleaning the plug connection and/or trying to get hold of a cheaper part to fix it.
It always makes you feel good when your vehicle passes an MOT but was even better in this case as I knew it would cost a lot for such a small (sensor and wire) thing.
Thanks for any advice that you lot gave me - although I did think there would be more due to the collective knowledge on here.. If anyone has a 99' offside front abs sensor (on board display type) going cheap then give me a shout.

Would you believe it. The abs light has not come on since mot but now nearly every time I brake at a real low speed the abs works and scares me half to death. Thats the 60A fuse out again then...
