bye bye to my fronty, lasted 2 weeks.

Hi all,

went on a trip to newquay yesterday, drive down was fine, but on way back water pump belt went in exeter and had no choice but to try and drive back stopping at every services and filling with water. eventually my brakes went, then battery and gages stopped working. lasted 60 miles though with no working pump so done well.
time to let it go to a new home sob sob.

any idea how much scrap value for one is worth?

What model is your fronty and are you going to scrap it??

About 150.00 for a swb..Well it was when i scrapped mine a few months ago :wink:

its a lwb 2.3td , yeh gonna scrap as i dont have time to sort it out and its a non runner at min and needs picking up from where i broke down.

In all honesty I would think about repairing it, the 2.3 is a fairly hardy engine. So long as you didn't overheat it it should be fine. The reason the brakes went is because the altenator wasn't turning and therefore the vacuum pump on the back wasn't working. Also the battery wasn't being charged so that would lead to the electrics dying. You might be pleasently surprised. I would be tempted to get a new belt on her, give the battery a good charge and see what happens. How far is it from home and where do you live? someone might be able to pop along and move it for you for some beer money and fuel.

Similarprob on my old 2.3, water pump went and it overheated so bad I warped a brand new rad, and popped the header tank off. However bypassed the rad and water pump and ran fine!! sold it for £300 on Ebay. A new pump and rad was going to set me back about £170 but the wife had no faith in it, so had to sell it. Might be worth repairing.

does it have a rear parcel shelve ?

the engine was smoking all way back, was almost in red on gauge and was 50mph all way back. i may have looked in to repairing but had a few oil leaks, and engine was a bit smokey when cold and warm, smelt like buring oil. figured it would be 2 much work and ive already done loads of work on it the last week with steering box and unsiezing a brake caliper, bled the clutch. it is a shame yes cuz the body work is mint and fairly new AT tyres all round but just havent got the time or money at min.

where abouts in south west are you?

Try selling the whole car on here. I'm sure someone must have a good 2.3 engine in a crappy car.
they could put their lump in your car and use that.
