The most important bit out of that ( which I didn't know ) is that the hubs will temporarily disengage when changing from forward to reverse.
So... if you can't get over something and have to back up and try again then easy with the left foot while changing direction and give the hubs time to catch up with your cunning master plan.

Yes, on reverse they disengage and then re-engage, this is brilliant for most users but for serious off road use (unless you are very careful) this shows the weakness of the Auto hubs as if you are stuck you tend to bang it into reverse and then forward while giving it some revs, if you push the auto hubs to far the constant snatching with the locking and unlocking under high revs can cause your CV joints to blow or the hubs to mangle inside.

This is why most who go serious off road will opt for the manual hubs as these as it says on the tin are manual and once locked stay locked no mater what direction you travel thus eliminating the snatching stresses through the drive train.
The only problem with these in the snow is you have to get out and lock them and leave them locked even when you dont need to unless you get out and unlock them.
