WINTER/HEATERS.

Hi again lads,just a little question just to put my mind at rest.since we have had this cold snap my fronty is taking longer to heat up the cabin,say about 15mins of localstop/start driving.don,t get me wrong it,s like toast in there after this period.needle never goes above 80. In the summer my head gasket went but we got to it before any major damage,so while the garage had the head off being skimmed i instructed them to cover all bases i.e change waterpump, thermostat,flush the system, new headbolt kit ,etc,etc.sorry if i sound panicky but i,ve laid out big money on her this year and she is now running sweet,so i just want to be careful.thank,s in advance.

It will take longer to warm up because of the lower ambient temperature outside, you wanna try a 2.8 brrrrrr :lol:

As above mate - it will take a bit longer but it might be worthwhile checking, if you have some air in the heater matrix.

defo takes a lot longer to warm up in these temperatures especially stop start driving,it took me over 8 miles to get up to temp the other week, it quite surprised me because i hadnt driven her much lately , doubt theres air in the system cos you would loose heat from the heater otherwise,

heater youre lucky my heater switch has packed in and i cant get into the mechanics
while next week,we have had nothing but snow up here so you can guess how cold i am
at 5.30am when i go to work, so all you lot with nice warm frontys you can kiss my :butt:

i did think about a fan heater but that would probably be too powerful for an inverter

i remember years ago probably 20 at least a mate of mine used to love american cars & owned several cameros challengers etc & most of them had electric fan heaters so you had instant heat on start up so i wonder why they didnt catch on in european cars ?

With Dave on this, those plug in heaters are crap.
Years ago my mate had a household fan heater wired into his astra to help his Mrs's legs with bad circulation, it was well toasty, just never worked out how he did it without frying wires and battery.

Have you got it on recirculate for the air rather than pulling it in from outside, it seems to improve the heat up time in the cabin. I know it is a simple thing but a lot of people just leave it on the other setting. I do realise this won't help withthe engine temp heat up times but does improve the inside of the car mine is usually warm inside 3-5 minutes even in this cold weather and the engine temp hasn't moved of the bottom.
