few newb questions

hey all, Im going to sound a right newb but i have a few questions about my 97 R reg 5 door estate 2.5 TDS.

1, how do i know whether my fronty is LWB or SWB, :oops:

2, someone told me it haid coiled diffs and i shouldn't reverse with them on - is that true

3, she's already started making a whirring noise on full lock does anyone know what it could be?

SWB stands for Short Wheel Base
LWB stands for Long Wheel Base

No idea what coiled diffs are

Wherring noise is probably the power steering pump

well for question 1 SWB has just two front doors to get into it even for peole in the back have to get in throu them and a LWB has four doors so you dont have to get out to let people in the back they have thier own doors if yours says estate i reacon it will be a LWB

,as for coiled diffs i have no idea about that but i never had any probs reversing with my r reg 2.5 and the whinning i have no idea hope that helps a bit

This might be a good time to point out about the 4 wheel drive system...........
DO NOT USE ON SURFACES WITH GOOD TRACTION, i.e roads !!!!!
Sorry if you already know but from the initial questions i thought it may be a good idea to reiterate the fact, if you use the 4WD system on roads or where there is a lot of grip you could quite easily cause wind up of the diffs causing them to "blow".
As stated sorry if you are already aware of this fact but it can't do any harm to tell you in case any other newbies read this and are not aware of this fact.

with reguards to the above. What happens when driving in snow in 4x4, then i come to a stretch of road say a dual carriage way that has been heavily gritted and dried up? To get into 2x4 i need to reverse, correct? But that is not very practical if there are other cars about.

oh ok, so it doesnt matter if the hubs are locked? Then just when i next reverse they will just come out of lock.

Cheers for comments. Hit another drama. When i have my tail lights on and i put the brakes on it cuts out the left tail light and i was wondering if anyone had a wiring diagram of a 97 fronty so i can chase this fault down this weekend before i have to drive back down south from yorkshire,

Does it have a tow bar? if so clean out the socket, this happened to me, also check all bulbs are working at the rear.

yeah my tow bar is pretty gipping like, ill check this afternoon when im fitting my dvd player in it. Its for the kid honest
