im thinking of going offroadi whant to do some offroading but dont want to use my present frontera for it so i was thiking of getting a type a. wich would be better swb or lwb does the fonty need mot insurance tax to go offroad i presume deisel would be better than petrol for getting wet so to all you mud maniacs whats the best frontera to go offroad with and for modin i only ask about insurance as modin the fonty will be limited if i have to insure it
Re: im thinking of going offroadMost pay and play sites require insurance, I use Frank Pickles, they will only insure your car if it IS modified
and its very cheap as its insured as a second car.A diesel is definitely preferable as is the 2.8 but Im a it bias Ste

Re: im thinking of going offroadIf you go to drumclog its 20 quid an its a massive site. Dazz and i go there with the s m c and jame bass recently came up for a weekend aswell. Depending where you live you might be best finding a local offroad club or like minded people. Y fronty is standard apart from tyres an i use a swb its better for turning etc Dazz uses a lwb an he gets around fine an he is on road tyres certain parts he cant do due to lenght an grounding due to the lenght again this is where the swb come in.
It doends what you want to do the only damge i suffered in a the last year is a noisey exhaust an few dents but that my fault for putting in place it would get damage if your carefull you will get round without damgage dazz uses his every day an for the first meets he took it easy. think there is a coupe of clubs up your way an offroad site think your nearest is glentarkie. My fronty sport cost me 400 an my tyres cost me 200 an has done me ok for a season an has still started an till road worthy Last edited by drinksoptional on Sat Jan 08, 2011 10:16 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Re: im thinking of going offroadif you want a 2.8 shorty start saving your money, they only put the 2.8 in the frontera for 18 months (even tho in my opinion it is the best of the diesel engines) and the 2.3 was lwb only as far as i'm aware
2.3 td lwb died in spectacular style when all liquids in engine bay ended up in the sump....
2.8 tdi lwb sold her and still regret it as she was one hell of a truck just brought 2.5 tds lwb
Re: im thinking of going offroadThey did a 2.5tds in a shorty too...and I bet they go like stink, almost as rapid as their eml light I reckon...
