Anti-Scratch

Hi guys,

recently I wnet on a newbie day with FOG in may Pajero it was a great day, however the truck suffered a little. The paintwork took a beating in terms of scratches from bushes and trees.
This got me thinking and after chatting to Huggy I came up with an idea of covering the main panels with a magetic sheet of vinyl.

I have done a prototye for my nearside door of my truck, take a look at the picture attached.

This magnetic sheet is re-usable and considering the cost of a spray job not that expensive. To do this door has cost me about £10 but there are cheaper suppliers out there I just bought it form a local guy I know.

I know some of you say the more battle marks the better, well ok but some of us still like to polish our trucks and make them look nice for the wife :-)

Hugs has seen the potential first hand and like me seems to think it could work.

I am interested in your thoughts, becuase if this works and the sheets hold up to the battering then I may start cutting them to panel sizes for different Frontera's and Pajeros/Shoguns and offering them out.

The best bit is that logos or designs can be printed onto these sheets to add a bit of fun.

alot of companies do similiar just with company logo and such on, first time ive heard of them being used to protect bodywork to an extent

Sounds like a good idea though im sure if you managed to get large sheets in bulk it'd work out a bit cheaper

A couple of questions mate.

Can you get the stuff colour coded or clear ? And what was it like to cut? I'm just wondering because some of the bushes we went through were like razors and I wondered how well (or not) it would cope ?

jUST COVER IT IN STICKERS WHEN ITS CUT. (damn caps lock) if it works its a great idea because those of you that dont want your truck coverd in decals all the time have the best of both worlds. When you gonna test it?

Most bushes make a sound like nails on a blackboard on my car, I could see that just curling up and ripping off :oops:

save washing it just peel off. i like yer thinking i know alot of people worry about body work be good for a bonnet protection aswell.

Compound and cut the scratches out then give it a coat of quality polish (I use Auto Glym). The polish stops the majority of scrathes and those that do get through are only light instead of major. Just spent the week end on Salisbury Plain and the vale of Lambourn where we encountered blackthorn, brambles, bushes and trees that I can't identify and all manner of other nasties. The polished surface has held up remarkably well.

The last time we did the same lanes it took me a day (10 hours) to compound and cut the scratches out of the lacquer down both sides of the truck. This time (haven't done it yet) I expect to spend an hour or so washing it down and polishing it up again.

If it stands up to testing then I would say it is a good idea for those with "Shineys"

i havent washed mine since last offroading hides the mark

How flexible are they....
might get some for the li'll white locked up leafer...right colour and all that...
they would need to be really flexible though as most of its panels have unique contours... :lol:
