RepairsJust had a local garage to take a look at my 99 truck. They have diagnosed front anti roll bar links worn and both front wheel bearings have play with a quote of £240 to fix the lot. What do you think? Is it worth me adjusting the bearings or just putting new ones in? How easy is it to change a roll bar link? Thanks.
Re: RepairsFollow this thread to the point you see the bearing and just tighten it slightly and repack with cv grease, no need to strip it all off, it can actually be done with the wheel still on.
viewtopic.php?f=41&t=20136 First time you do them will take 40 minutes and when you know what you are doing it can be done in 15 minutes or less. The new roll bar links should cost about £22 a pair and can be changed with a spanner and mole grips. One of the local guys here may do them for a few beers Ste

Re: RepairsI took the nearside wheel off today. Could feel loose bearing if I rocked the wheel up and down. The mechanic at the garage also suggested adjusting them before replacement as he said they felt smooth when rotated. What is the dome thing with the 8mm allen bolts in it? I couldn't undo them as I didn't have an 8mm key so progress stopped there. The drop link on that side didn't feel loose to me... and the knocking I get under my feet i don't really think is a drop link - it sounds and feels like something heavier or more solid. I'm going to go and watch 007's The spy who loved me later and forget about it.
Re: RepairsI dont know if anyone reads this but I'll carry on anyway..... I sorted the loose wheel bearings. The adjuster ring had a groove in it where the bearings had worn it. I've nipped them up a bit with the wheel on so I could check for movement. My ABS is playing up so I think in a week or so I'm gonna remove the front disks and clean the sensors and rings and re grease the bearings. The knocking noise I still need to find tho'.
Re: RepairsThe dome is just the hub cover.
Any good MOT guy should find if either the upper or lower ball joint is worn, its very hard to commit to upper or lower with online descriptions without hearing it, but it may be either or both. Ste
