Test mode via speedo reset button of Ford Focus

Postby Retro Pedro on Thu Aug 05, 2010 6:33 am

Fella showed me how to do a 'test' mode check on a 'Y' reg Ford Focus. Was wondering if the same can be done on a similar aged Fronty, i.e B series. Don't know, but thinking that the 'A' series might not have the same circuitry/technology.
Basically, he held the speedo reset button in and started the car at the same time. After a short period the trip reader came up with 'test' then in sequence of pushing the button it, different dash board checks displayed - dials, then dashboard lights, speedo check and interestingly fault codes. To take it out of 'test' mode, he simply restarted the car without holding the button in.
Apparently, if the 'test' mode is not reset, and left in the right position, the speedometer can be checked by the digital trip reader display going into speedo mode and giving the actual speed reading.
Going to wind my son-in-law up by doing this on his Focus without telling him :D
Fella was telling me that it's something that could be done on certain Ford's upto about 2003/04. Told definately on the Focus and Transits but not sure about other models.
