B series - Specifications

Not that I'm in the market yet - but as the A series get older, when the time comes, the natural replacement will be a B series.
Was wondering if the specification levels are relative to the model names - i.e. Olympus, Niagra etc.
For example, did a specific model come with Limited Slip Differential, Manual lockers etc as standard or were these optional extras?
Are the diesel lumps 2.2DTi or did the 2.5 VM engine carry through to the B series.

The hubs are a vacuum operated system on the B series, work like manual hubs but you dont have to get out to lock/unlock them or reverse like A auto hubs.

2.5 was only in the later A series, the B's are all 2.2dti's.

Trim levels are about the same or a little better than a late A series depending on options.

LSD is still an option on the B series.

The 2.2 Dti is a nice engine- smooth and economical. Downside is ground clearance on the 'B'-I think the fuel tank sits lower in the chassis- and there are a fair number of gubbins sticking out underneath!

although there is a reduction in ground clearance, the lowest point is still the rear diff which can be lifted with bigger boots but that does require at least a body lift to significantly raise the diff.

If taking offroad then i woukld say that steel belly plates are a must for the B series instead of the tissue paper ones that come at manufacture.

The 2.2dti has plenty of power and can switch to 4H on the go at upto 60mph with just a touch of a button.

The olympus was the highest spec (i think) then there is the Limited and the RS like mine which has all the colour coded bumpers, mirrors etc and firmer coils

Trim levels are not vast.......

LWB come in Base model & Limited (pre 2002/3)
LWB come in Base model & Limited (post 2002/3)
SWB come in Base model & RS,(there may have been a different later designation )

Hopefully an easy question for those in the know:

Will the moulded rubber mats from an A Series fit a B Series?

Ive got superwinch manual hubs fitted to my b series, basically to make the front wheels true free-wheeling , in two wheel drive. you`d be amazed just how much energy is lost with them locked (4x4) compared to unlocked (4x2) on the road

. And if weather turns nasty or planning laning, just leave em locked and vehicle is as standard

Limited slip differential was available as an option, if its on the car from new the code on the engine bay plate should state G80
