Very worrying noise! HELP!!

On my way back home yesterday, I heard a very strange noise.

It sounded like a spinning ratchet followed by a solid clunk!

Could this have been the hubs unlocking by any chance?

After using 4WD, the only reversing I was able to do,was in Tesco's carpark!

Problem there was, had to start turning as soon as I reversed.

Funny how many people there were. I mean,it's only the first Sunday of the year.

I hope someone can explain what the noise was, as it still has me a little bit worried!

hello, 14mm socket, take the cover of and check the cir-clip

its a 30 second job, you dont even have to remove the wheel, unless you have covers on,

If they are goosed or missing, how much are they? and what size do I need?

Looks like I will be going to the 'frauds tomorrow then!

Its quite possibly the noise, although if you have used 4wd on road it could be a busted front diff. Check the circlips first and go from there.

Took it out of 4WD as soon as I hit proper tarmac but couldn't reverse until Tesco's carpark.
Every one seemed to be having the same thoughts as me! i.e. nip into the supermarket while they are still open!
Only found ONE empty stretch of road and that was covered in ICE!!

the circlips u need 'if any' are external circlips

just make sure the 1s u buy have the full circle in the inside and the 2eyes on external part
also u may need to buy circlip pliers (not the angled circlip pliers)

Back down to the frauds then :oops:

Maybe, I'll get the right ones this time eh?
