Not car related but on my woodworking bandsaw. I have 2 micro safety switches on my bandsaw, I think one or other of them may have stopped working as my saw won't switch on. Have checked fuses etc. Is it ok for me to join the micro switch wires together to by-pass them and thus eliminate them from the problem.

Electrically yes just join & insulate the wires,but from a safety point of view it is a big no no,the best bet would be to use a multi meter to test for resistance when the contacts are closed .Then temporarily bridge the offender :wink:

Also it may be that it has lost the magnetism in the main contactor

When you say main contactor is that the main on/off switch? I was using the saw in the morning and then went to use it in the afternoon and it wouldn't switch on

I am an electrical safety engineer with 45 years experience, safety devices are only provided as a last result, usually because someone in the past has lost part of their body by either doing something silly (stupid or cutting corners). There intent is to remove any potential hazard from occurring. Do you have the need to retain parts of your body for future use!!
If so then get a professional competent electrical engineer to either repair it or get it replaced.
You have only one chance to get it right but many chances to get it wrong, so what I am saying is get it right first time.

Don't worry bud, I'm very attached to my body parts and intend being buried with the same amount I was born with :lol:

I'm not looking to by-pass the switches permanantly just wanted to test them. They are both fine, the problem seems to be with the on/off switch, I'll stick an old nail in it and give it a wiggle....no no, only kidding :lol:

If you do look at it, take off the saw blade, its easy to forget if it starts up suddenly.

best way is with a continuity tester accross the micro switch terminals, with the power off.

Is it a push button on/off switch Jim ?

'Tis a push button, one of those typical two button numbers, red and green.
