Electric Inverter

Postby Retro Pedro on Sun Nov 01, 2009 10:32 am

Does anybody know of a portable gismo that I can run my electric snoring machine from.
On the machine label it states 'Suitable for use with a D.C. Interer: 200W min.
Other info is 100-115V - 1.05A (1.11A max)
220-240V - 0.60A (1.65A max)
50-80 Hz

Would need to run for a 8 hour stint.

Without this machine, I can't sleep, so thinking of something that will suffice so I can join in with the weekend camping events.
Cheers for any advice.

I have a 1000w inverter which I used to use in my truck at work, being cheaper than buying 24v versions of everything.
It connects direct to a car battery, rather than through cigarette lighter like smaller versions. Quite how it'd fare when used that way for 8 hours, I'm not sure though.

You would need to look at your battery setup for that. This page might help give you an idea of what you're trying to achieve...

You say the inverter needs to be 200 watt minimum but what is the actual wattage of the snoring gadget? Presumably less then 200 watts, if so that will increase the run time.

A 75 amp hour battery will run 200 watts for approximately 1.87 hours. Although actual run time may be a bit lower taking into account losses through the inversion process, cabling etc.
Another option would be a second leisure battery in the boot or engine bay specifically for the inverter, has the added advantage of not draining your starter battery. but even a 120 amp hour battery will only give you 3 hours with the above figures.

A better option for long term use may be a small petrol generator. More expensive but will run for up to 6 or 7 hours and modern camping generators are very quiet.
I also drink Port and I'm not ashamed to say it!
