2.4 what to look for when buying?

I need some advice on what to look for on a K reg LWB 2.4 petrol I've seen for sale.
Cam belt? Engine noise's, fuel pumps, what to pay etc..
It's got 120k on the clock,

Chain cam drive yee ha! I hate belts,
It's got 12 months mot & looks very clean.
What is the performance like with a 2.4 lump as I will tow a large motorcycle trailer and fully load the car up?
Anything else worth looking for on a car with that mileage?

just the usual things

check the clutch is ok the 4x4 goes in and out ok drive on grass/slippery surface to test if possible

iv'e towed caravan all over Britain when i had my 2.4est 20-25mpg

Weaves old 2.4 had about 200k on it and still pulled his large caravan everywhere.

If its a leaf spring model they can get saggy after a while and when I bouhgt my 2.3 I didnt discover this until I loaded it right up the first time for work and got a bit of a fright when it went down to the floor ,and changed the springs pretty soon after that,which was another£80.00, and a days work.
Check if the towhitch comes in and out if its the swaneck one which I find very useful as I park on the steet every night and leave it out most of the time so I dont crack others numberplates but bump into them very gently with the the spare.This hardly ever happens he adds hastily but sometimes I come out to find that peeps have squeezed me in a bit.I keep the swaneck in a bit of tractor inner tube so it dosent get grease everywhere.
Locks?, drivers window as it winds to the top, mine makes a horrid staccato noise and its the teeth on the cog worn and slipping. Ask if the sunroof leaks.Check rear door glass goes up ok I've had to replace the telescopic arms twice as they wear out.
Check to see if the special security nut holder undoer thingy for the wheels is in the glove compartment.
Just some more thoughts mostly the ones I missed good luck.

in my humlbe opinion the 2.4 is a very capable car,if i could get trusty back i would have him tomorrow

Thanks guys I've just looked at this "very clean" car and what a piece of poo!
The head lining is hanging down all the way from front to back,
The sun roof is an after market lash up,
The throttle had to be stamped on to move it ( with steel toe cap boots on),
Transmission very noisey & had to be forced to shift from hi-lo etc,
Steering all over the place, I could go on and on.
I'm thinking of reporting this prick to ebay.
The funny thing is I thought I recognized the address and when I got there I remembered I looked at an Alfa 155 3 years ago that was discribed as in very good condition and that was a pile of crap as well. :butt:

So if you see a 2.4 LWB advertised in Bedford I wouldn't bother!

No that's just what I looked at.
I would like a diesel but the diesel pump horror stories I've read put me off a bit, What's the score with these things?

aint really got a clue with reguard diesel pump problems so you would have to post on the relevant model in the tech section :wink:

Just returned to this post.Saw the comment about your worries about the diasel pumps and I have heard that they are bombproof.Also it is possible to pick them up on ebay for not too much.
The 2.8 diesel seems to be the one that is the most reliable.
I like the long wheelbase fronteras .I have had a great time with mine although have one wo things to fix,its my work vehicle so Ineed the bigger space in the back.
Maybe you could contact some fog members near you to ty out the different models.
