Need new ENGINE 2.2 Dti RS 98/99

Bah

Ok, have engine issues but tried a 2nd compression test and have problems. Turns out my scored bores are causing compression issues and i dont actually want to break the car on ebay.

SO.. cant get cylinder liners apparently.. and i was smiling at £80 rebore costs but then cried when i was told the pistons are £145 each .. so new engine. Plus all the other gaff that goes with it, never worth it.

Recon'd engines are silly money from what ive found and one company told me that £1100 to redo my engine was reasonable. (think not).

So apart from EBAY (which isnt great at the best of times), where o where can i get a replacement engine from.. My recently skimmed head can go on it and i can check crankshaft etc prior to fitting, but any recomendations ?

Local breakers are suggesting £300-400 with a six month warranty (as long as i prove i replaced cam belt (worrying as it should be a chain), which may be viable..

Apparently, so i read today, the engine is also in the SAAB 9-3 !?!

Any recomendations or alternate suggestions..

Hi mate, don't know wether this will be much help. I can supply new AE pistons for £91.13 each in vat. The only problem is that I can only get hold of 3 at the moment.

have a look for a written on vectra C or signum. They have the same engine. you might get lucky and find an engine thats already getting broken. Lots of breakers are reluctant to break good engines, so you may end up having to buy one complete and just selling your head.

I would look at getting your bottom end done first as you know the history of the engine. Just because one from the breakers runs, dont mean its good. Their warranty dont mean s**t. They will always have an excuse. Believe me, I know!!!
