Frontera Technical Support

first of all i must say told you so .it started when my father in law came to visit us last month.the phone rang and the wife {caz} answered only to find out that we were getting our 2 yearly visit from him and my mother in law.
first i thought ok who has died or he has a new car.well it was the second one. a few hours past and i saw head lights approaching the house with horn tooting so me being me i waited until all the commotion had settled down before looking out the window which looks out on the front garden to be greeted by the sight of a 04 plate 2.2 frontera in red { the same colour as my 2.3 } ok so he has finally lisend and got a decent car to pull his caravan.
i had a good look round it very nice just a bit to shiny for my liking

.any way i was to find out that two weeks later he had went out and got a land rover freelander and got rid of his shiny fonty .why because his brother has one and so he had to get one as well i dont no the year it was but i no it cost him a packet of dosh. any way a week later they were off on holiday with the caravan following close behind them

they made it to there camp site but it never mad it home it was not having it the gear box packed up and had a holiday of its own {it cam home on the back of a AA truck. and yes i was having a good belly laugh at this that was untill this afternoon when my door bell rang. when i answered it i was surprised that it was a local guy from the village who i no has a 2.3 frontera well he did he was asking me to give him a hand to pull his freelander home as it had stopped with a bang from the gearbox .so off i went with the wifes volvo as my two trucks are in bits just now to find a sad looking freelander with the contents of the gear box lying 50 to 60 yards behind it with a long streak of oil {it looked as if a big slug had gone up the road }leading right up and under the freelander.
so 20 mins later when i had stoped chuckling and wiped the tears out of my eyes {laughing my head off } i got a toe rope and pulled him home with me still chuckling every time i looked in the rear view mirror. well he only asked if i was abble to get my hands on a replacement frontera for him {i have placed a add in the wanted section } when i asked why he had sold his frontera he said the wife wanted to get a land rover because they are more reliable. you can make your own mind up but i think it served them both right .

re your mate wanting a 2.3 theres one on ebay up in dingwall,
its spares or repair its been in stored in a garage for 2yrs dont
sound if there is much wrong with it have a look see what you think.

that will teach them to buy gaylanders, never heard of the green oval being called reliable before, must be some rumour put about by TATA employees

Don't think LR have ever had a reputation for being reliable, thats why serious overlanders, game reserves and the taliban use toyotas :lol:

I have 2 Frontera's and i wouldn't part with either for any other sort of 4X4

Ha.... Kewls... I towed a freelander and its caravan last friday.

I was on the way down to london and a few miles from home on one of the worst hills in wales I passed a freelander and its caravan stopped at the side of the road going in the opposite direction. I saw the cloud of smoke from the top of the hill before I could see the car.

Being a generally nice sorta chappy I turned around and asked if I could be of any assistance. We quickly determined head gasket problems and I said I would tow them to the nearest layby.

I hooked em up and dutifully set off up the hill. Fair dues to the Old Girl she never faltered and made the 2 mile climb to the top of the pass with Freelander and caravan in tow with ease.

As it turned out they couldnt get a signal at the top so we unhitched the caravan and left it at the top while he free wheeled down the other side then we went back up in the frontera to get the caravan.
At least they were in a safe and sheltered location with a phone signal. I left them with the numbers of a few local garages and they seemed happy enough with that. The guy was just glad that his family were all together in a safe location.

Anyway, point of the story... He couldnt believe that the frontera had pulled both the car and the caravan up the hill and he asked what was the best one to go for as a replacement for the Freelander.
