Anyone know if there is a motor industry ombudsman, I can find plenty of details for insurance etc, but not MI specific.

Depends on the area of the Motor Industry - for example, vehicle recovery is covered by AVRO, MOT and associated side would be covered by the DoT, General sales are usually unregulated, other than the credit side of things - apart from that, no not really.

Oh well, small claims court it is then :roll:

I would start with the local trading standards - might be a history of complaints that will help any case you bring

Have been in touch with them and are following their advice, letter writing etc, next step will be small claims and all the hassle involved in that.

I found that earlier Roo, looked hopeful at first and then noticed it would be abit far if I needed a face to face meeting :lol:

I think thats for financial issues rather then motor trading standard hon.

Jim, if you bought it on Finance, then the finace company can bring pressure on the company.
If you bought from a Main (franchised) dealer, their franchise customer help dept can do the same.

We do come up against these things from time to time and its been our policy to "undo" the deal and get the customer into another vehicle we have in stock, usually without problems. I presume it was a used vehicle, not new. If the dealer isn't prepared to offer a replacement deal to keep your custom and you dont have finance on it, then you will have to resort to the courts I'm afraid.

Nope. We are doing as trading standards tell us, as in writing letters, but the garage is ignoring us and not responding, which makes them look bad and us look good for trying to sort the problem out of court. Think this is going to drag on abit and end up in the courts

The main problem when you reject a car is that you have to stop using it, so we will have to buy another car to use until this is sorted, money we haven't got as we spent it on the new car.

Well, we have given up the fight on this one. It turns out that it is a lose lose situation even if we win the court case. It costs £550+ to go through the courts which can't be claimed back even if I win. If I take it back to the garage we bought it from I lose a days wage taking it back, a days wage picking it up and the cost of a hire car for however long they have it for. I don't want to deal with them as I don't rate them at all, so :butt:

to them. Once again the system set up to help the man in the street is just a money maker for everyone else. Gonna use my main dealer instead and use the seperate warrenty I took out, but even that will cost me money as they don't pay out as much for labour as the dealer charges.
