using a 3 internet dongle thingy is this speed ok

I would have expected somewhere between 1M and 1.5M . 500K appears a touch slow.

Dongles theoretically can provide speeds of up to around 3.5Mb/sec, however in practice they never do. 0.5Mb/sec would be good for e-mails, but as soon as you try full scale graphic-intensive websites, or downloading files, it's gonna crawl.
