ECU

Postby scuddmann on Fri Aug 08, 2008 11:51 am

HI guy's, here is a quick question for the techeis, I have the 2.2 petrol B series swb, and when sercing for my anti theft device fault I took a look at the ecu and noticed that it appeared to be a secondhand unit, I say this as it had been marked with a yellow paint on its top, you know the type that reakers use to identify a part they have sold, the only thing is, is that it was marked up "2.0" so my question is can a 2 ltr ecu run a 2.2 ltr engine? you see my mechnic has the tech 2 fault reader diagnostic tool and the ecu is returning a fault as unknown, and the engine managment light is on, also when attempting to assign the new key fob remote door lock device we could not get into the antitheft device, now this may mean that the antitheft device has not been coded to the ecu, we do not think so, or the "possible" 2.0 ecu does not recognise the antitheft device.
The alarm now works, but cannot be switched of, so I disconected the horn, and the central locking works by the key, not the remote.
so can a 2.0 ltr ecu be fitted to a 2.2 ltr? Hmmmmmmmmm
also how can you tell the difference between them, anyone know???????????????????????????
Trust me I will get my fronty back up to scratch, ta scuddmann

You need the ECU for your particular engine as the 2.2i came in a choice of two types,X or Y.

2.0i engine map, alarm, immobiliser all totally different

Fuddy, how do you tell the difference between the "X" and "Y" engines? and do you know if the ecu has to be programmed to all the bits of kit on the car, as I still cannot remove the managment light, or get the tech 2 to see the antitheft device!
Ta very much, scuddmann
