Urgent advise Catalytic converters

I have just had a text from work, one of the girls in our office drives a van and she went to go home in it yesterday and turned the engine on and it made a horrible noise, it turns out that while she was in work someone had stolen the catalytic converter by grinding off a three foot section of the exhaust.
What makes this more unbelievable is we park our cars by agreement in a big busy DIY stores car park, they are checking CCTV.

The scum cash the converters in for scrap getting in the region of £80 each.

Local truck dealer near us got done the other week for about 6trucks in there pound at about £3000 a cat and Don Amot had a load of motor homes done big money now for scrap.

Yes, 4x4s are easy to "work on" - especially for thieves, because of ground clearance. So 'cats' are targets. Isuzu style underbody shields on Frontera may make it just a little more difficult than some models. The shields in themselves would be harder to cut I assume?

Metal grid covers going amiss around Macclesfield area. Don't these people have the slightest regard for the safety of others? If an adult of any age stepped into these open drains, let alone a small child. Also dogs and cats. I found an open drain in Wilmslow near to our house. Immediately went home for some chalk to draw danger signs all around it and then phoned up the local Council who were there within an hour.

I now have a TPFT Insurance on my Frontera. If it was damaged I'd keep the salvage, strip off everything of value and put it all onto another one I'd probably be able to buy for around £500/600. At only £109 for the Insurance this seems a no lose situation. But if my immaculate Frontera disappeared stolen for scrap or spares then I'd be looking at a couple of grand cost for probably a Jimny to replace it. I reckon the most stringent security now needs to be applied to the cars worth the least on our driveways!

If the scrap yards were done for receiving this would stop.
The police in south wales were targeting individuals with scrap but are doing little to monitor scrap yards.
If proof of ownership or identity was required at scrap yards this would slow down if not stop.
Cats will need a serial number before long to prove ownership.
